Motorized jigger?
« on: Jan 29, 2023, 11:43 AM »
Someone posted on here not long ago a contraption with a little motor  that jigged a set line with rod up and down. I thought I might like to make one just for S & Gs, or maybe even for use. I quite enjoy making little contraptions. Anybody know where to find that post? TIA

Here's the most recent, but I've seen a couple of these posted. Maybe search for 'auto jigger' or related terms too?

Thx, guys. Unfortunately that's not the one. The one I saw was about a week or so ago and it was built more from scratch. The guy had bought a motor from Amazon. I am not sure what I am looking at with the one you reffed above. The guy seemed to pick some sort of jigging machine out of the box.

I think I remember the post you're referring to. God only knows which board it was on. If I find it, I'll bring back the link

I am working on it slowly. I dont like how the cams are bolted on- i am working on 1/4 turn cam to change on the fly.
motor can be had for ~15 at sciplus.com or other tinker type shops. screw uncle jefe and the inflated costs
sciplus also has some airpumps that look promising to keep the hole open too

Wow----that looks fancy! 3d printing and all!  Thx for posting esp for those links. Fascinating reading at least---not much good ice here yet >:(

The one I saw posted looked more basic. Even though I enjoy making DIY gizmos, I don't have a lot of DIY skills so I prefer to do things that way. As I recall, the one I saw posted used a Jaw Jacker and jerked the rod 'up and let it drop back down.

that one i linked is realy not bad. I am simplifying it using a $6 PWM to control motor speed.
3d printing is not exotic- find a local maker space or public library.

the one that is interesting is the gil-o-tine
https://www.rut-fin.com/gill-o-tine-auto-hook-set-jigging-device-p/main-unit-01.htm

but at $500+ a little too rich for my blood.

i am still trying to figure out how it jigs and has the auto-hookset.  it looks like it moves the loaded rod tip side to side and the line passes over a teeter-totter thing. i have not seen many vids of it in action.

this one is curious too- super simple uses gravity/balance but no hooksetting.

i was also trying to imaging putting a jawjacker type arm on a balance pivot.

look at the one Jaw Jacker has, I have a couple of them and they work with the Jaw Jacker. Probably be fairly simple to 3d print something similar. I just don't have the time or patience to build contraptions myself so I bought the Jaw Jacker one. They are really not complicated and with a 3d printer and some time a guy could build his own.

Meh...just build a couple of these for $10 and change out yer minnows a little more often. Action enough in my opinion. Works for me anyway.
