just a heads up to the less experienced... do NOT think you can just walk out on the ice this coming weekend without spudding.  do NOT assume your spots that were safe last weekend will be safe this saturday.  I was out yesterday afternoon and the top two inches of ice were soft and virtually useless... most areas had 7 inches of good ice under that, which is obviously fine, but there were a few patches already of 5 inch ice that was completely soft all the way through (i could spud through it in two hits)
