Otsego Salmon

<< < (2/3) > >>

Muskie Matt:
Bussman - I too would like to start fishing Otsego. Any tips you can give would be appreciated. I fish C'drago a few times a year. I'm from Mass but do fish NY often. I know a bit about Otsego, the tower off of Cooperstown etc. I golfed Leatherstcoking abd got a good look at the shallow waters. Any info appreciated.

ChenBassHead:
Nice fish George! Can't wait for the weekend, and hitting Otsego! ;)

Nice fish!

Bussman:

--- Quote ---Nice fish Bussman.  What sort of fight do salmon put up under the ice?  Anything like open water?  We get big salmon here (world record of 92 lbs. then a 99+ lber last year) during the June / July -- just imagine what it would be like through the ice.

These are my first 2 ice fishing. I let them run when they first hit ad once i set the hook it seemed too easy. I was right and it was a good thing I planned on them running a few times. I tried to make sure i didn't get the line all wound up in ice or tangled up. When I got them close to the hole they took off again. They each did it 3 times before I could turn them to get there heads up the hole.

I am just learning myself. Got skunked today! May have been  beginers luck! LOL

Now for a cool story! I had a salmon follow my lure up from 50' to about 15' under me and I could look down and watch him. It was wild! He was nosing the bait but wouldn't take it in his mouth. It was really cool to watch!

That would be cool to be able to catch salmon all the time through the ice. Nice way to feed the family and not have to pay an arm and a leg.
