Vex FL8-SLT gain control knob

Hey guys. I have had this flasher for over 20 years now. It works great

I have always wondered about something, its not in the manual that I can find.

I am sure some of you guys know the answer to this

Its the gain control knob. You can push in on it and it clicks, display changes. Click again it goes back to where it was before clicking it

What is this for? More gain resolution is all I can figure. I dont really understand how it works. Or how to use it

It is the Interference Rejection function ..used when running two units in close proximity..when pressed/cycled it reduces the cross signal interference between the units ..note only one angler/unit should cycle through this function ..you may not get rid of all the interference but should get rid of most and enough to fish.

Hes talking slt model.the ir button turns ir on and the pushing gain in cycles thru 10 interference rejections.a little history the fl8 had no ir,the slt came out with ir and that ir button turns it on or off and pushing gain cycles ir and then the se came out with brighter lights and better ir.

Ok I see. So the yellow button turns it on and off. Makes sense since the red light comes on.

Yes.it was vexilars first flasher that had ir so its a tad goofy with a button to turn it on and pushing the gain button.

It looks like the pressing gain knob turns the IR on/off (default is on upon power up red light) the yellow IR button when pressed cycles through the 10 IR modes.

Getting it from the manual ..Is the manual incorrect ..I dont own a FL8 of any model so no hands on experience

The yellow button in the middle of the panel controls the Interference
Rejection feature. The red LED to the upper left of the I.R. button tells

you if the rejection circuitry is on. The I.R. feature has eight steps of rejec-
tion to let you eliminate unwanted interference from another nearby

depth finder. When you turn on the FL-8SLT on, the I.R. automatically
comes on to the first step. If necessary, press the I.R. button repeatedly
until the interference is eliminated. You can press the button seven times
before you get back to the first step again. Turning the unit off and then

on again will also reset the I.R. back to the first step. To turn the I.R. fea-
ture off press the Gain control knob. The red LED will also go off.

TIP - If running two SLTs, it is best to turn the I.R. off on one unit
and then eliminate the interference on the other unit.

Been awhile since i had a fl8slt or se.either way its all related to interference rejection.i thought hitting gain switched thru interference on the slt.

Hd is right.i am wrong as i just read the fl8slt manual and it states the gain button is for turning ir on/off and the ir button cycles thru 8 ir settings.think i would remember since ive had 4 fl8slt and se units.age getting to me..
