Ohhhhh schroon. You have been such a disappointment for me this year.
Typical late season on Schroon today. Bunch of small perch, a nice bass, and a brook trout! Challenge getting out, once you find a spot to get on, 15" solid ice. Glad I had my Eskimo, wind was whippin'.
We lost the shappell.....but got it back...another guy with a hub...watched it go to the river.
I've never seen a brook trout come out of the lake! Did he show signs of being stocked? Maybe he jumped into the tank of lake trout at the fish farm? I've seen some rainbows and figured that was the case with them. I suppose he could have been introduced by bucket or made it downstream on his own too.
Nope, not a stockie, native. Little fella, thought he was a baby laker when we jigged him up, but when we looked closer, sure enough, native brookie. Same spot my buddy caught a 22" brookie last year. Caught on a perch colored Hali and a grub!
North vriver or south?
NYS brookie record is 22"...http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7935.html
Northern end....have to thank the gentleman for helping us catch it....he lost his...the ice is bad on the north end....we had it tied to the auger.... plus two anchors....never saw a weather report saying that much wind for yesterday. Then the shoreline giving out on us so wet feet....was an epic fail....
Good Weather and Good Fishing on Schroon today We had 9 lakers from 15-24 inches 4 on tip ups and 5 on the jigs All in 40-60 feet of water The small bait and small jigs were the ticket today
