Nice machine Dacker!!   Betcha there’s not much that can’t go thru......I hit the pond this am.  Got 2 eyes early and the marks disappeared.  Went out to the perch grounds and picked away for a bit. Found my last eye with them. Enough for a meal or two. Beautiful day out, no wind.  Never even had to fire up the heater.

First for me on Oneida, had a plane land couple hundred feet from me on the ice. Guy met a couple sleds drilled some holes and started fishing. Better than walking I guess.

I have seen that a time or two when I was a kid. My dad used to have a plane before I was born. He had a friend with a plane that would drop in once in a while on the ice.

Not sure if he was coming in or leaving but he flew over us.
This happened to me and a buddy on lake Macatawa in Michigan one day and was written in my perm shanty .  Guy landed by us and took us each up for a short ride..

The guy with the airplane landed On the ice and came into the Sandbar when we were there Friday ✈️.    If I ever hit the lottery that’s how I am going to get out on the ice lol.   Maybe fish right out of the belly of it

.  I’ve never tried other than maybe a half hour after dark.  They hit in the fall after dark....not sure why they wouldn’t in the winter

I have not fished long after dark either on Oneida but have on other lakes and have done well in shallow water with lite up tip ups in 10’ or with clip on bells with reflecting tape on the flag so you can spot them easy with a flash light.
I prefer a 2oz sinker for perch...when it hits 'em they won't feel a thing

On Saturday I picked up a couple of nice eyes in the mix with four others that were too close to 15" for comfort.  They turned on and turned off for me in the space of an hour or so just after 1030.  Picked a few perch throughout the day, but the eyes were there and chasing everything up to 7-8 ft off the bottom and then it was a whole lot of lookers no biters.

What do you guys consider "perch grounds" in oneida.  On lake Erie we normally call big mud flats the perch grounds.  Wondering if its same sort of thing here

.  Pretty much the same. I was in 35 fow next to some structure. Not a ton of fish but they’d come thru in small groups every 15 minutes or so.  Some of the guys on here have really been crushing them

You guess? That's one of the most bad a** things I've ever heard of.

Saw a yellow plane land on Otsego Saturday.. same guy??

I do a fly in trip every autumn to a remote brook trout lake and I saw a guy land his plane on the lake, hop out onto the pontoon and cast around drifting, pulled in a few brookies and then fires up the plane and takes off.

 :afro: <------- that's him

Headed up to fish Thurs-Sun.  Hoping to break through on the 'eyes.  They have eluded me thus far.  Only managed a stray here and there.  Got a good feeling this is the weekend.  How does the local forecast look for snow accum?  I am seeing up to 6" throughout the next few days and standard breeze to help clean the ice.  Any hesitations about running a wheeler as early as Thurs?  Launching at the typical spots.  Appreciate the info.  Tight Lines all!

If you are unfamiliar with this lake please use caution as there are some pretty good pressure cracks around.  They can be hid by this new or drifting snow. If you are unsure ask somebody but don't go out exploring on your own if you don't know where you're going.  Not only is there thin ice in some of these spots but they can hide a lot of slush under the new snow that will ruin your day.  Be safe and good luck fishing.

Thanks Deadeyez! Sounds like a slow go.  Have chains so hopefully can limp.  I have been around lady o long enough to be aware of the cracks but appreciate the warning.

Perch and eyes were sure biting today.  Not the nibble bite they were going after it.  Love fishing before a storm!
