How many versions of the Jiggin Rap are there?
« on: Oct 21, 2016, 08:30 AM »
When the Rapala Jiggin' Rap came out it was NEW. But now I've seen many other versions.

Custom Jigs & Spins - Rotating Power Minnow (RPM)
Northland - Puppet Minnow
ZT - Zero Twist Minnow
Nils Master - Jigger
Moonshine - Shiver Minnow
HRT - Polish Perch Fry

They all have their little differences. Size, Color, Spining Hook, End Hook, Bead on the treble hook, etc.

Who uses what? I've only use the Rapala but the tail broke on one of mine and the plastic bodies are cracking. Think they would be better for the price.

Yet another option is the Johnson Johnny Darter. Looks a bit unique from the others in that it also has a rattle built in. I've only used the jigging rap myself as it's been a consistent producer and I'm more likely to switch colors or style of lure entirely (like flip to a spoon or lipless crank) than switch to another lure that would have a subtle difference in action.

One thing I noticed while using my Jiggin' Rap this summer is that the Crappie usually only hit the treble hook on the belly. I've never caught them on either hook on the end.

I got some of the Custom Jigs N Spin Rotating Power Minnows and some of the ZT Zero Twist from Sportmensdirect.com. Both look very nice.

I don't know why you would want to use anything but a rapala, they work!!!

I have fished with both the Moonshine Shiver Minnow and the Jigging Rap. I also own the rotating power minnow but have yet to try it. For some reason I always gravitate to the jigging rap. I don't know if it is a comfort thing or what but I prefer it. I really only use the shiver minnow for open water fishing. Just wish the plastic wings were a little more durable

I have one Rapala Jiggin' Rap where the tail fins broke off. It's still sitting in my boat. I think I can glue it back on.

I have jigging raps but man do I love the Moonshine Shivers!!! A little bit cheaper most of the time, and the glowing action on them is incredible for a morning and evening fish!  I also haven't had problems with them breaking.
