Title: What are the beads for?
Post by: bmyrkle on Jan 29, 2016, 08:28 AM
When I buy something like a Diamond Jig from Custom Jigs and Spins, they often have a bead or two on the hook shank.

What are these for? Tying something additional on like a fly fisherman might? To rattle or make noise? To help position your live bait on the hook?

I don't know.

The bead is for the fisherman.
It worked it hooked you.

I'm assuming the bead is just to add some extra color, or to help hold that little piece of plastic tubing that's also on the hook. No idea what the little plastic tube is for though?

The bead helps prevent premature paint chipping from wear and tear.

i'm pretty sure it's to help hold plastics in place, particularly the nuclear ant bodies.

If you read articles about building lures, the bead is used as an attractor.

It covers the shank of the hook...so the bait appears to be an extension of the jig head.
