Bait en rout to Mountain lake
« on: Feb 05, 2007, 11:54 AM »
Hopefully Mountain Lake will have safe ice by this weekend. Where can I get bait on the way there from Parsippany.  Preferably large & extralarge shiners. I know County Line is history. They never had large shiners anyway.

Closest Bait to Mt. Lake would be Hi-way Sport (Phone: 908-689-6208) it is on RT 31.  I would say it is about 4 miles south on 31 from where RT 31 meets RT 46.  If you need more specific directions let me know.

Get off rt80 at exit 27 and go into Netcong to Bait and Boat right on rt183 there by the lake.  Turn around and hop back on Rt80 west or rt46 west.

Going to Hi-way stated above will earn you an extra 30 minutes of driving.

Is Netcong bait still there?...No one mentioned it on here or NJH when discussing bait for Lake Hopatcong. I guess could take a detour to Dows also

I'm not suprised at all.....theres are tons of spring holes all over that lake. You can have 10" of ice in 1 step and only an inch in another if you don't know where they are.

I wish I knew....I usually find em by accident.....putting a foot through up to your knee not only s*cks but can become quite dangerous.

I was thinking of giving Mountain Lake a try this weekend, any suggestions on which area of the lake is best to try and hook into a musky.

Anywhere......no 1 place on that lake seems to produce better than any other. The water was filthy there on Monday as the middle of the lake had just locked up and everything was still getting blown around. The fishing has just about been dead so far this winter. In 2 weeks of ice on the lake I've heard of a total of 4 'skis caught so far and all of them have been far from what a legal fish would be on that lake.
