Got my sweet fan installed this week.
Took quite a while as there were a ton of parts to it.

Dim-able LED light, 9 speed low draw DC motor, reversible, timer.
It's got everything a feller needs. :)

Drifter I have put together and installed a lot of fans. I have never seen one with that many blades. I am glad that I never had to put one like that together.

The story of procuring this fan reads like a soap opera.
I bought it through Home Depot US as Canadian HD does not sell it.
Home Depot US does not ship to Canada. Got hold of a buddy in NC to ship to him and have him mail it to me. Along comes problem #2 HD US doesn't accept Canadian credit cards for online orders. Buddy agrees to pay for it and I'll pay him back. Problem he doesn't use PayPal but his and my good buddy #2 does. I PayPal the $$$$ for the fan and shipping to him and he pays buddy #1.

I bought the fan on sale @ 25% off so it was $300 instead of $400.
I didn't save any $$$ though as the shipping by mail used up all the savings.

It was worth all the $$$ and agro because it looks as good as I thought it would and it really stood out among the 100's of fans I looked at.

Nice job on the fan installation it should due the job of getting the air circulated in the cabin and keeping the heat from rising to the ceiling. Now that most of your ceilings are insulated what are you plans for finishing them sheet rock, bead board  ?

Walls and ceiling are going to be covered with 1x6 t&g pine. About 3,000 square feet worth. Not looking forward to paying for that.

What company or style is that fan? I love it! I looked quickly and didn't see it on hd's site.
BTW, your cabin is amazing and so is your work! I appreciate all the time and effort you are putting into it to make sure it fits you and works.

Drifter-016 ,thank you for the reply to my question the t&g pine will give the interior of the cabin a nice look are you going to stain it or leave natural. Curious have you kept an accounting of your materials cost since starting the cabin build.

Drifter leaving the t&g boards their natural color will save you time and also some money that would have been spent on the stain. I'm sure if you ever do total up all your receipts the money spent will be a large amount.

Even if you are leaving the boards there natural color I would stain them natural otherwise they will yellow in the future.  Unless you don't mind that.

That's what I'm planning for. With time they become darker and warmer looking.
The problem with staining pine is you need to pre-treat the wood with conditioner or you get streaking.
So you have to condition, stain and then a couple of coats of clear. On 3,000 square feet it's a ton of work.
Am even looking at pre finished pine.

Have alot of friends that use T&G pine in their cabins here in MN and they all say to go with the pre finished product.  The cost is about the same once you add in all the other materials and way less hassle and you don't have to deal with the fumes, much less the work involved to actually seal the wood.

Our entire cabin is T&G pine. It was all treated and clear coated. I would never do it again...made the job last weeks longer than I wanted. It was way to bright white in my opinion when it was first installed. Even though it looked beautiful it still was a bit much to look at. At about 5 years now it has started to darken and the knots are really pronounced. I think it looks 100 times better now and are very happy with the look now and if it continues to darken.
In my opinion pre-finish would be worth every penny!

Here is a pic of a small section of the knotty pine. It isn’t a great pic as I was taking a pic of the newly installed floor and not the walls. It is about 4 years after install and you can see it has started to darken a bit already.
My Dad still tells people that we didn’t do it right because it is darkening. He says we secretly left out one of the steps to keep it from darkening...hahaha, he does agree that it looks better with the darkening, though.

Love this thread and all the work you are doing! Thanks for sharing your journey.

I put shiplap pine on all my walls at my cottage.  (Ontario) I had a three step process to finish it before installing.  First was a coat of stain sealer, let dry, then a coat of natural stain that was darkened with just a little bit of dark stain, then 2 coats of clear poly.  It took longer to seal and stain and finish the wood then it did to install it!  But worth it in the end, as it really popped out the colors of the knots and didn’t have that bright white look that natural pine with just poly coat on it has.

I have learned a lot since Drifter/Dave started his cabin build now if i can just retain all of that information. Stainining and finishing raw wood can be a lengthy process to get the desired finished look for the wood. PerchPirate,Otto thank you for sharinng your knowledge and photos.

I want to go with end matched pre-finished as it will save weeks if not months of work installing it.
The end matched stuff does not need to end on a stud as the ends are T&G too.
