Do you ever scent your decoys?
« on: Jan 26, 2012, 05:41 AM »
Many years ago I bought some Dr. Juice Pike/Muskie liquid scent and some in a gel form. At first I was smearing it on the paint of my decoys but noticed that it was beginning to discolor the surface and blister my paint jobs. From that time on I only smear it on the metal fins, if and when I chose to add the scent. My experience so far hasn't concluded whether it helps bring in more fish or not. Does anyone else add a "flavor" to their fake decoys as an enhancement?

I have used dead smelt in the hole for the sent ,but not on the decoy. Pike like oiley smelly baits and I don't see what it would hurt. I'm going to try that my self. I've had pike nose the dead smelt and push it around under the ice. I put the smelt on a rig to hang level in the water half way down the hole.
