go big or go home

Happened upon a nice pattern while jigging for perch. I had caught a few smaller perch on ice flies and tear drops. I switched to a #3 Swedish pimple, yellow with prism tape and caught all keepers up to 11 1/2 inches on the bigger presentation. What I learned was that when the smaller fish were biting lightly I could still get the "keepers" to hit hard on larger bait. The #3 also worked in attracting fish to the area when the vexilar was marking nothing. Hope this helps and let me know if you have had similar results.

I always start w/ a spoon for perch--downsize if they bite slows. A minnow head bulks up the presentation further...

use the biggest jig possible at all times...easier to take the hook out, faster down the hole, and oh yeah, bigger baits equal bigger fish....

my secret weapon is a castmaster with the hook removed and 3 to 4 inches of mono with a jig attached, most of the time i use a orange color head tipped with a minnow or fathead depending on the size of the jig and castmaster, give it a try

I wonder too, if what you stumbled upon was a depletion of the smaller sized forage base? If that is the case then it would stand to reason that the fish may now be keying in on larger prey.
I am sure that on some lakes the primary forage switches from young of the year to older age class forage as the winter goes on and the smaller forage base is consumed.
Then again I could just be talking out of my ......
