dumb question
« on: Jan 12, 2007, 03:18 PM »
the KJ had a picture today of two guys spincasting at togus pond

togus is a general law pond, this wasn't entirely kosher, was it??

it is open to ice fishing from the time ice forms until march 31....but as a general law pond it closed nov 30 for open water fishing

i DO NOT want to see anyone nailed on this, but am i reading the laws correct? (i really agree with the idea that general law ponds should be open year round, this being a prime example)

I agree, the laws are tuff to understand. The Saco was open from NH to tidal all year, then ice fishing doesn't start until Jan. 1. Now it's 2007 with no 2007 open water  law book out yet. I'm sure someone will figure it out?  ???

At least we don't have ridiculous fishing laws that residents can't figure out.

I think your interpretation is correct.  The extended season ended on the ponds after November 30.  There are maybe 6-10 rivers and streams in the Central Maine area (not counting tidal waters) open now to open water fishing with varying restrictions (ALO, etc.).  Those guys on Togus were in the wrong.

LMAO! I just think that ME has some wierd regs.
If a body of water had ice you could fish it, but you can't because it isn't frozen yet.
I see no logic in that.

That has to be a stupid city rule, though.
The DEC wouldn't stoop to that level.

There are people working to fix that right now:

 yeah right

http://www.dec.state.ny.us/website/reg6/hilite2.html

they used to have a station, where the dec would physically check your gear and bait. there is still a dec sign in/out sheet, and if they are checking licenses, you had better hope your name is on that sheet
