From what I read these guys are having problems fairly soon after they buy the drill?  Or are the handles breaking after already drilling hundreds of holes?  Mine has a season and a half of holes drill with it.

My failure was quick.  I don't recall exactly, but I had less than 20 holes drilled.

I enjoy making things myself. I,m a bit puzzled, though, about those 'silver colored' things between the handle and the motor? thx.

I used copper pipe to hold the drill in place. Also for the trigger assembly. There is an aluminum plate in there too

D.O.R.A. went exploring. Got lost and was never to be heard from again.

I think he came on last year.......or so.......Said he had a year and D.O.R.A was running strong. He didn't plant to make any for resale since clam dos the gear box.

if he only knew how much clam would botch this product.... I haven't heard anything all that bad about the plate itself (the gen 2's), but the gearbox.... yikes.

Also the ice Kicker design is the same as Dora in that both use chain drive...

Anyone know how much the kickerll weighs? And I'm assuming it's spinning the auger at half the speed of the plate?

Depending on whether the plate has a gear box or no, if yes, then they both spin the same with a 2/1 ratio...

what are your overall impressions with the ice kicker other than what you've already shared? does it feel heavy or awkward/unbalanced or noisy or any thing else you can think of? you are the first to buy one and share info with us so far.
any thing you'd want to improve upon?

The fit and finish is what I expect from a garage built piece of gear.   It is very well made but rattle can painted.   The handles can be a little rough if the drill catches at the end of the hole.   The thing is made of steel so it's not light,  but if rather carry the weight and know its going to last.  The price is low for the value.

I recently used an ice kicker and was very impressed. Definetly not mass production, but the fact that it is made in the USA verses the clam, which I believe is Chinese manufacturing made the deciding factor . Nice unit for the money! I am sick and tired with my old 10" gas auger, will only keep it because I like the larger hole when targeting pike and musky.
