dacron on a fly reel jigging
« on: Jan 07, 2011, 07:42 PM »
was wondering ?
i got me a new pole and put me a fly reel on it to try for jigging  i put some dacron on it to kindaa fill the spool but am wondering if i should just put a 3-5 ft leader of mono on it or should i but on 30 ft or so . i know if it's cold and freezing i will have some ice trouble with the dacron and that should be enough to answer my own question but  would like to ask others to see what they have tried or are doing /

thanks ,
Scott

I use that vinyl coated fly line backing.  I will use at least 50 feet of fishing line, but I had actually spool all 100 yrds on my fly reel.
For more information read my MN nice journal

I wouldn"t hesitate to use dacron as a backing, but would put a solid 50 yards of (choose your favorite) ice line over that. where I fish, I am raelly in more than 15 FOW, but if I lost some, it is a whole lot handier to have it on the reel, verses on a spool. Just my .02
