Around here, depends on the lake.  Half the lakes around here 10" is as big as your ever going to get a crappie, so in that case, 8" works for me.
It has nothing to do with the length of your rod, it's all about how you wiggle your worm!

Depends on where I'm fishing.  Usually local, 9".  If I'm fishing down south where the bigger boys are prevalent, I'll up it to 10".

To me a keeper is a woman that`ll not commit me to a mental institution when I mutter about ice-fishing related things pretty much all year. A women that`ll let me pursue my hobbies without asking silly "Y" questions or pointing out the obvious even when it`s glaring you in the face. A woman that`ll luv ya for who ya are! ....... what ? ohhh! a keeper fish! Only those for the table or one too badly hooked to release. LOL

Your locale has a lot to do with everything.  I have two private lakes I fish.........and I take them off there in 7inch plus range.........keep in mind I am talking blacks, not whites.  Most of the whites in my neck of the woods are like catching a paper plate........might be long, no meat...........you catch a 8 inch gill around here and that is a nice fish........not saying they dont get bigger.....just what guys around me would call a nice fish.......you catch a 14" crappie around me and that is a wallhanger..........a 10" gill and that is a trophy!!!!!

10"+ is fairly rare locally.  If hitting a special crappie fishery full of slabs...anything less than 12+ are tossed back...

I'll look at the fish and ask it if it wants to be dinner...if it blinks I throw it on the ice otherwise she's wet!  ;D

If I'm not fishing or hunting right now, you can bet that I\'m thinking about it!

yea 9.5 is a pretty big sunfish lol, 25 of that size would feed an army

Gotta be 10" anything under not worth it.  It's great when you hit a school of 12-15 inchers, makes for a busy night.

It is always nice to get into some 16" + crappies and dinner plate size gills, but 10" + crappies and 7" + gills works for me. I fish for fun and food ;)  I can fillet fish fast :P  To be honest, it is the bigger crappies that I leave go becuse they are good breeders ;)
Ice fishing = #1, getting out of the house, #2 Having a beer or two with good conversation, #3 Catching fish, & #4 Getting out of the house, Did I mention #5? It is getting out of the house.

Depends on where I am fishing. If I am fishing a small secret hole that I never see anyone else crappie fishing at I will keep them between 9-10 inches. These are big enough to filet and taste good. I put back anything bigger than that to let them grow.
