Title: Carry bay ice and bite?
Post by: Panfish_Chaser on Mar 01, 2017, 08:26 PM
Hoping to get out on the ice this weekend, how has the bite been in Carry bay. I'm assuming there should be 8+ inches of ice due to the cold temps for the rest of the week...

I went this morning. You can get onto it off the concrete pillars to the right. Only thing is the pressure crack with a 4 foot opening so you can't even get out into the bay. We fished the little swamp area which had between 6-8" of ice and one spot closer to the pressure crack only had 2". We only caught 2 really small pike and a pickerel. There is no way around that pressure crack either so I'd be carful walking out since it might have skim ice on top.

I'll be out a bit south of there tomorrow. Should be able to get on the ice again. Would have gone today if it weren't for that wind. 6 footers crashing the shore right now and can see the spray.

I got blown off of alburg just north of the bridge to isle la motte, got anchors in but couldn't get the pop up setup the wind kept knocking the hubs in so I gave up and went home and got the flip over

I was at carry bay until 11. Didn't get a single flag, but I did however catch a half a pale of perch. Was the only one out in 10-12 feet of water except another in a pullover. If I didn't have to work this week I would be back to the same spot to fill the rest of my freezer before it goes again. looked 12" of packed snow where I was.

We got 1 crappie, 5 big sunnies, 2 big gills, 6 big perch in 2 1/2 hours. Very slow but the size was there!

You were close to them it sounds.
The crappies should be coming into that bay heavy any day.
