I drove out to Strasbourg on Sunday and it's locked up from Valeport to Regina Beach, maybe further but the ice heaves are HUGE.

I was out this morning at daybreak/ Walked out 1.1 mile in front of Canyon Beach. Sitting on 6 inches of ice over 26 feet of water and caught a couple small perch.
Then the fog rolled in and could hardly see ten feet in front of me. The fish stopped biting probably got pretty dark down there. Had to follow my tracks to get back to the truck but could have used the gps if I had to. Going to give a rest for a few days.

Got on to Little Arm recently, about 5 - 6 " ice. We saw lots of carp and a few wallys on camera.

Carp!! I would love to catch one of those under the ice.

I agree anglerbrian, carp would be a blast to ice fish for.
I have read that they are tough to catch through the ice, but, at times, it can be done. ;)
Here is an In-Fisherman link to ice fishing for carp ---> https://www.in-fisherman.com/editorial/mission-impossible-ice-fishing-carp/154003 (https://www.in-fisherman.com/editorial/mission-impossible-ice-fishing-carp/154003)

I heard about a guy who fell throw the ice and drowned on last mountain recently. This is word of mouth news so not 100 percent certain of it but if anyone has any more information about it I'd appreciate the full story

Never heard anything like that. I was out today and drilled out to 30 feet of water, I was a consistent 7 inches.

I was out yesterday as well we took a quad and trailer full of gear out to 29 feet 7.5 inches of good black  ice.
At the edge of the drop off to deeper water the ice was only 6 inches. I am hoping for a couple weeks of cold weather
to make the ice little thicker so can go to  my waypoints  from past years. Oh i should mention we were somewhere between Midway and Arlington.

I hope I’ve put the following on The Last Mountain page.
I was out at Glen Harbour Sunday, November 30th.  Didn’t get out to fish walk on and out about 10 feet, consistent 6 inches thick. A heave over to the barn starting from the point where some walked out to fish. Another guy walked out at Moors and was fishing.

I'm fishing north of the regional park at the north end of Last Mountain.  Ice is 12 inches so I drove to one of my regular spots looking for pike not even a nibble in the first hour.

Three of my buddies and I were fishing at Collingwood yesterday and the bite was pretty good for us ... fairly consistent  ice thickness of 7”.
One of my buddies and I discovered that someone had damaged both of our vehicles that  were parked on the shore.  It  appears to be an ice auger that caused the damage.....
I understand accidents happen , but when you do have an accident and don’t leave a contact number that’s unacceptable 😡
I ask the guilty person to please contact me and we can sort this out how it should done .
If anyone else knows of this happening, please contact , thanks...
I have included pics....

Ice in the bay at Triple t is 12inches thick just  out in the main part of the lake  9 inches and heading east to about  26  plus foot depths much thinner.

Thanks in advance for feedback!

from the south end of Island View/Rowan's and northward is snow covered so take a snowmobile, everything south of that is clear ice which requires ice cleats or skates.

I was out by White Rock yesterday (walked on) and was out the week before at Alice ... Ice hasn’t thickened in my opinion ... but hopefully someone that has covered more areas and been out more frequently can comment .... but I sure as hell wouldn’t put a truck wheel on the ice. White Rock had early ice wind-broke in areas and inconsistent thicknesses but even the ‘good’ ice is 8” ish and a bit inconsistent. My two cents.

8.5" of ice yesterday at little arm bay. some guy drove out with his 1/2 ton and it was still topside when we left. He has bigger nuts than I do that's for sure. Fishing was very slow, was out from 8am - 5:30pm and only managed to bring 2 perch and a tulibee topside.

Wow....with only 8 1/2 inches, that is borderline crazy to be driving on.  I will be driving onto Blackstrap this coming Wed or Thur for the first time when it warms up, as we had 11 to 13 inches in spots on Saturday.

I simply cannot think of a worse way to die than to go through the ice in a 1/2 ton...opening the door and swimming/floating to the top and simply being unable to get out of the water...or not even making it that far...or just sitting there and having a big ol' pike come up to the window and say.." we have been wanting to have a serious talk with YOU for some time now!!!!.

Liberty Bar is renting rooms for only $35 a night, we stayed there Monday/Tuesday. Very friendly staff, great wings, good selection of local beer. Its nice to wake up to a 15 minute drive to the lake.

It was pretty slow at Triple T but my gal did get a nice one.

For those that are discouraged, in the last 8 days I saw more big walleye caught and released on LML than I've ever seen in my life. And I fish a lot. If you're not marking fish, move, get out of your comfort zone. Don't just set up to where the other tents are. Try new ground. This week was amazing. Tight lines and Good luck out there.

Snell1 That is great to hear! I am new to fishing long lake so am not sure where to go. I have been out several times to Alice and Weetoo but have not had the luck that you are talking about. Is there somewhere specific that you would suggest trying? Or even a depth range to help me improve my luck? I know that long lake has some bad ice spots but am not familiar enough to know where they are. I would sure hate to find them on my own......

I’m also glad to hear some of those big ones are getting put back to reproduce.
Have tight lines and stay safe.

That is good to hear Snell I have been out to Island View and Rowans in 9 hours of sitting on the ice with my daughter all we managed was an 18” Walleye. Rowans on Tuesday was really windy and really slow.
Even using my best baits and tricks...nada
Would drop the camera down every once and a while see a few Perch but nothing wanting to gobble up our treats....dunno what I’m doing wrong.....so yes discouraged 🤔🤔😡

Hey Uzo, If you're not marking them all day, You gotta move. They might not always be biting, but they have to be there. Try deeper than you're used to fishing. Good Luck!

What beautiful day to be out fishing! No wind for the morning, lovely sunrise and warm weather for Jan. Today was my first time out at Alice. The bite was slow and very light, although I did manage to catch 8 Perch and 6 Wally's. Big shout out to Brad for the great visit during the last couple of hours.

Looking for some ice conditions at sarnia. My buddy was out last week in a truck but said the heaves were starting. Any word on how thick the ice is in that area and how bad the heaves are? Looking to go south of the island with my dad.   Feel free to PM me. Thanks.

Title: Re: Last Mountain Lake 2020-2021
Post by: Foozie on Jan 13, 2021, 02:45 PM
Hi Whytie, I agree with Bisonfisher on the 20+ inches of ice, extremely bumpy and rough the first 50-100 yards out from shore but just go slow till it smooths out and no issues.
As for heaves there is a heave at the south end of the Island and heads across towards Islandview but from what we could see it peaters out 2/3rds of the away across and that was confirmed by watching people leave the island and head that way to get off the lake in the evening so obviously they were able to get past it.
So Sarnia to the island is clear sailing for ya, good luck and tight lines.

I'm curious as Adam the Fisherman was as well about anyone accessing the lake at Sorensons, ice conditions, heaves, etc, etc.
Or even Highwood and Kedelston for that matter?? Any info would be awesome, TIA guys.

This isn't first hand knowledge but I got it from a source who lives at Etters Beach. Several flipped and damaged shacks in the Etters area and at Henderson's. Said there were camper conversion shacks "With their wheels in the air". Some shacks that were frozen in really well were fine. My Dad's little 6'x8' shack that was frozen in and right in the bay at Henderson's survived.

I have been out to Island View, Rowans, and  Collingwood and have been on top of 12-16 inches of ice at depths of 30 ft to 12 ft.
The ice is plenty thick almost as thick as my brain other than 1 decent Wally all I’ve managed to do is inflame my hemorrhoids.
As always use common sense, when in doubt walk on.
Best of Luck 😬👍👍

on at IslandView again today
Fished all the way from 30ft-18ft... slow afternoon caught a couple small eyes that came up gently and back down again to grow up some. Decided to pack up and head to Rowans for the last bit.....fished 10-12 ft managed to do slightly better. Seen lots on the camera just casually swimming by staring at baits and doing everything except taking a hook. No issues getting on. Ice is getting THICK have a feeling I’m going to need an extension in another month....going to have to find one or buy one. As it is my StingRay blade is getting to about 3/4 up the shaft before finding water...pretty impressive. Now if the fish would stop making me look stupid all would be right with the world.

Be safe everyone.😬👍

Looking to head out for an overnight camp this on the 23/24. Went around rowans, white rock area on the 9th and it was slooooow. Marking lots but only caught one baby walleye and a burbot in 14 hours. Is it better ANYWHERE else on the lake? Heard rumours etters was doing good but can’t really confirm it. Would like to get on some fish if we’re going to spend the night.

I heard some guys had water coming through the unfrozen holes in their shacks during that wind storm and making a mess of their shacks, also seen some good pools of water refrozen on top of the ice.. would this have been from the pressure of the ice with the windstorm?

I was there last Tuesday before the windstorm.  At that time access was good and only 4" of snowcover all over.  Fishing was dead in 23-30' though however there are lots of suspended ciscoes 5' off the bottom.  Not sure how the snowdrifts have affected access now, however.

Hey guys, I’m planning to head out to Last Mountain for the first time this weekend. I’m planning to stay at the hotel in Liberty, looking for some advice on where to fish. Not asking for anyone’s secret spots, just a general idea of where to park and and access the ice. As I said I will be coming from Liberty, so looking at maps I should aim for somewhere around the Triple T and/or Etters beach? If anything I would like to know how to get closest to the lake in those areas as I won’t be driving on unfamiliar ice. Planning to park my truck and pull a sled out on foot. Thanks in advance!

6 hours and eked out 2 walleye and a cisco today at Alice Beach.  Perch, walleye and ciscoes made appearances on the flasher and camera but for the most part in a negative mood.  A perch sucked in a minnow head off the bottom, tasted it then spit it out like a pea shooter.  That pretty much says it all.

He guys, I’m a resident out at Canyon Beach, just figured I’d give everyone a heads up that a truck broke through this morning straight out from the cabins in 20’ of water. All 4 tires broke through and truck was sitting on the frame. Another resident was able to run out with his half ton and get him out. My shack is in that area and the ice is 20” as of yesterday. Be careful out there guys, this ice this year is a bit different than past years! Stay on the topside everyone

Thanks Ozzie , and just for the ones that aren't all that familiar with Long Lake Canyon resort is on the east side of LML pretty much staright across from
Triple T and Big Arm areas. I believe the Duval grid takes you to the Resort. Correct me if I'm wrong guys. Last weekend south of Sarnia by the Island which is across from Rowans and Island View we only had 21"-22" of ice. So for February that's not overly thick. Yes be safe out there every one.

There must be a reason a truck went through in that area though isn't there? 20" of ice is plenty for driving..? IM not overly familiar with the lake, im aware of the common areas to avoid but this seams like a pretty safe spot to be cruising isn't is?

North east about 200 feet. It was just off the blown in trail that used to be there. I think the ice is like Swiss cheese there in all honesty. There were a lot of holes drilled around there in December. Seemed to be the place for everyone to go.

TS86 in years past it's been good to go, i don't think it's ever been maintained right to the waters edge as the grid does a 90 degree corner a couple hundred yards from the shore line. I haven't been there this year yet but it's a pretty popular access point for the west side locals so a person would just have to go check it out.

If your bent on going to Rowans 12-16 feet
Not deeper. But in all honesty You will have better luck at Regina Beach. We caught way more fish there including a very large Northern that went back to live another day.
It’s been slow at Rowans least before the cold snap it was. Heading out this weekend
Back to Rowans looking for more Walleye
If you do head out look for an orange and blue Tacoma come by and say hi or if ya wanna borrow a fish cam to take a a peek underneath feel free. I always bring it along but rarely use it. Find the sonar is enuf for me.
Best of Luck

For an ice fishing guided adventure on LML there is also MTN Man Outdoors & Saskatchewan Outdoors Outfitting.
Here is the website for both guides https://www.mtnmanoutdoors.com/ (https://www.mtnmanoutdoors.com/) & http://saskatchewanoutdoors.ca/fishing.html (http://saskatchewanoutdoors.ca/fishing.html)

G&S Marina Outfitters out of Rowans Ravine is another guiding service, but, think they only operate during the open water season.

This past week at lml has had it's ups and downs. Lots of perch at Rowans in 15-18ft but hardly any worth keeping. Moved around and managed my PB walleye. Also moved around a lot looking for burbot, long days with very few fish. Definitely spawning on the south end of the lake, pre-spawn feeding further up the lake. Hopefully this warm weather really fires them up!

Was dead as a doorknob for us yesterday but it was a pretty nice day, weather-wise.  Schools of cisco are cool though.

We walked out today but talked to a guy driving the lake. Said he came on at Etter’s and the access there was still good.

Has anyone been out on the ice last couple days?  What’s the access like?  Thanks.

I’m hoping to go out one last time this weekend. I can’t seem to find walleye anywhere. Does anyone have a general location where the March walleye would be?

I walked out a couple of days ago and couldn’t believe a guy drove out and fished north of Grandview. Where I was drilling the ice was tight shards for about a foot and then rot. I couldn’t believe it. Caught a couple of targeted Pike, letting go about an eight pound female. Kept a 4 pound male. Heading out to our cabin for the night to hopefully take in the last day of the season for this year.
