Bigelow and mashapaug
« on: Dec 10, 2010, 11:15 AM »
Had the day off and took a ride to bigelow this am. Just about ready, one more cold nite should do it. I found
2-1/2 inches around the launch. Lots of ice making noise. Dropped a line in about 20feet from shore dead stick with a meal worm. No luck. Going to  head out ther again tomorrow a little more prepared.
Good clear black ice. I think it's here for good even with the rain coming.

Lets all hope we dont get much rain if any at all...

A cloudy 45º day is better then a rainy 45º day!
Next time you go to cwood let me know how many fish you didnt catch.

yeah mash was about the same at th launch. i didnt go out. the ice was clear as glass. the way the wind moves the water up into the launch. i doubt if its safe yet. its definetly locked up though.

Weather report looks good next week, especially in the north part of the state. Of the walleye lakes in eastern CT, Mashapaug appears to have the best chance of good ice.  :)

I hope so. Gonna try to catch some minnows to use Sunday- if I can't catch any I'll resort to buying them.

If you aren't concerned with size and just want to have fun, you should give Coventry a shot. Lots of action there but slim pickings on keepers. Where in CT did you move to?

How's it looking at Bigelow for Sunday? I've got some new gear coming from Cabelas and am hoping I'll get them in time to play with them on Sunday.

I'll probably check it sometime Sat. morning too, at least get some jigging in with the sonar. The first cove on mashpaug always ices up sooner, may have to check that out also.
good luck if you go sunday.

Was on Bigelow from 12-2, half a dozen trout jigged up live on the Marcum video, 5 inches of ice in the north end. Checked Mashapaug, 3-4 inches in front of the launch somebody fished there yesterday but the ice was talking too much for me to stay alone. Quick stop at Gardner, 3 inches out to about 100 yards in front of the launch, glass clear, I could see fish under my feet in 6-8 feet of water. Too spooky for me just like Mashapaug. Later this week.

I was on Mashapaug on Satuday, a guy was leaving as I got there too, as reported, it was about  4" and got a bit less at the end of the first channel, the entire lake is iced over and should be building ice nicely, maybe 2 weeks or so, only managed 1 perch jigging..Bigelow was at least 4" just about everywhere I checked too.

Hopefully I can get to Bigelow Wednesday, issues with bank and shopping got in my way today :( and I'm planning on hitting Crystal Pond tomorrow.
