Best line for jigging rod?
« on: Feb 08, 2010, 07:19 AM »
Any suggestions on which line (size and type) to use on my jigging rod?

I will be jigging lakers in deep water ... i have "ice" line on it now and went to get a new spool of line to replace it and the tackle shop guy said to use regular mono .. the first tackle shop guy said to use the ice line.

I currently have 10 lb test.

Thanks!
Goin' where the wind don't blow so strange,
Maybe off on some high cold mountain chain.

Opinions will never end...depends on your rod.  I've got straight mono on one rod, but on another rod it's Fireline plus mono leader.  The fast action graphite rod needs some shock absorbtion, the softer fiberglass rod needs some low stretch line.  That's why I do it that way and works for me.

i tend to use at least a 10# braided and a 8# trilene leader. i typically fish over 130' of water and don't want any stretch in my line. large lakers have a pretty hard mouth and need some good force to penatrate them.
when im up shallow ill switch to a 6# leader. i try and keep to a smaller line just as a personal preferance.
yes it's true i am a HARDWATER HOOKER!!!
