Good Northern Pike Lakes?
« on: Jan 17, 2009, 08:40 PM »
What are some of the best producing lakes in the state for quality size and numbers for Pike?  Haven't fished for them much using tip-ups or on the hardwater in general. Not expecting anything huge just would like to pull one out at around 30". Also wondering peoples preference on hook choice for your pike tip-ups. Any suggestions, info, or good old bs would be appreciated

Appreciate all the replys. Now just got to do a little research on a couple of them. Also anyone have any thoughts on Tiber Northerns? Would be my first time up there also. Thanks

My vote is for Peck too. Haven't been there in a few years, but always did well. Hook size is always a personal preference. I use a #6 treble because I fish walleye more than northerns. I use dacron backing, barrel swivel, then use a 2' leader of 20 lb spider wire for a leader. I haven't had any northerns break off, though I do retie the hook after every few fish because the spider wire will fray.

Any other year but this i would say pishkun is pretty good for numbers of tiny pike but I have not heard of anybody catching more than 2 in a trip this year. I think it is the high water.
