Ice at the Snake River inlet !!!

Went up to Dillion this morning to check on the ice conditions at the Snake River inlet. The inlet is frozen with 2” or so of ice. Didn’t venture too far out but there were a couple holes already drilled a little farther out. We were just playing around with the spud bar punching some holes and watching the ice crack. Should be more than enough ice for Thanksgiving weekend.

Too bad some people find it necessary to throw rocks on the ice!
This place will be a ZOO real soon!
Just a reminder, know your fish,…and the difference between a female salmon, and an arctic char. They definitely look very similar!

I’m gonna try heading up Monday or Tuesday depending on work schedule. Taking  the kids for their first time out on the ice. Don’t know if the salmon will be in that area yet or not.

Also plan on going up early in the morning on Black Friday.  I’ve never fished the inlet for salmon before so I don’t know exactly when they start spawning, but I’m hoping it’s early next week.

Gonna be a zoo.  But it is a fun place to take the kiddos once the salmon show up.

Never fished it but might try it this year.  Limit is 1 Char over 20 and 10 Kokes?

Yes, the limit is 10 Kokanee and one Arctic Char over 20 inches.

Haven't done it yet this year, but I'm thinking about it.
Has anyone heard if the Kokes are in there this year?

My understanding is that they are in there around thanksgiving every year when there is water.

No sure if they showed up yet this year or not,  but I’m going to find out Tuesday morning

I usually go up on Black Friday. It's usually just a sh*t storm, party environment. Everybody's catching fish and having fun.Good excuse to dust off the ice gear and see what I forgot to bring.

Got on the ice this morning at the crack of dawn. I had my two kids with me so we were able to put six rods through the ice.
We left at about 11 o’clock without catching anything. To be fair I wasn’t doing a lot of fishing, mainly just wrangling in my kids. There were a couple other groups out on the ice. Someone caught a couple small trout and a sucker, but that was about it.

Not sure if the salmon have Spawned yet or are just not in the area.  Thinking about going back up Friday but might try another lake so the kids can actually catch some fish.

Buddy went back.  Fished for a couple hours... salmon are in.

Maybe we just weren’t using the right gear or we’re not in the right spot. Tried switching up the jigs several times and tipping them with shrimp or wax worms. We were position right over the channel in front of the parking lot.

Went up on the morning of Black Friday. Hardly anyone out on the ice. I think the reason for that is the salmon are not there yet. Saw a couple small trout pulled out and one salmon. Probably go again in another week or two to see if the salmon are there yet.

I was there Friday morning as well with my buddy and our sons (we were 2nd on the ice).  We were in the double-wide black Frabill pop-up.  Caught a handful of both Salmon and Bows, but it was slow action, and almost completely died off at 8:30.

Might head back up again this weekend.

Were you able to make it back up? Do you know if the salmon responding yet? I’m thinking about bringing the kids up again tomorrow.
