Ok to leave wires connected to battery for locator without risk of battery losing charge? I do give it a charge every 2-3 months per recommendation.

Just disconnect one wire. No biggie and easy to do.

Yep, always. I usually pull batteries from cordless tools when not in use as well. Store with a full charge and you should be fine until you top off for use.
