One forecast I saw was predicting possible record high temps for next Saturday.  Ridiculous.  This reminds me of ice making when I was living SOUTH of the Mason-Dixon line!  The Maranacook togue are definitely catching a break with this weather.

Just looked at the 15 day from accuweather.  There is nothing for COLD weather in site right through the 15th!  Wonder if Nonesuch Golf course is still open? ;D

I pulled the open water gear out and have gone over it.Made sure the reels are good, checked to terminal gear so as to not find I'm short on anything.I think next I'll give the outboard a good going over too, don't want to be caught unprepared when the opener for open water(which we have in abundance now) is on hand.

Maybe by getting ready for open water that will bring a cold snap in.Prepping for hard water has only brought warm weather.Reverse climatology/psycology,hope it works. :P

The Maranacook togue are definitely catching a break with this weather.

Jim_C:  How have the sizes of the Maranacook Togue been?  Before we moved out of Winthrop, and the last time we fished there (almost 3-years ago), they averaged about 14"+/-.  I'm assuming the massive number of togue that were stocked there in 2000 must have grown much larger by now.

It's funny you mention Maranacook ice conditions because my wife said just last night that the lake must be struggling to freeze up.

The togue sizes are coming up some.  Typical fish are now 15-19". They still have the legal size reduced to 14" in an attempt to further reduce the numbers.  I have mixed feelings about that.  I like the fast action that we often get out there.  A buddy and I had several 7-9 fish in an hour togue blitzes out there last year.

It's all a moot point now though.  The ice just isn't happening.  >:(

If Cupo and Mannix are right, there won't be any fishable ice come the weekend south of Aroostook.  Get out the sun tan lotion... this really blows.

I have watched the wind break up the the ice I was waiting to firm up, with the 15 day forecast looking the way it does I am wondering if I will be on the ice by February.

I tried to get out Sunday and ended up soaked from the waist down.  Most ponds have solid ice, but the shore is weak for 20 to 30 feet.

This is really going to screw things up. The lawn is still green and the bushes are starting to bud out. If things don't cool down pretty soon we'll have a bad tick season next year. I was in Mass. during Christmas vacation and noticed that the bulb flowers are starting to come up. The wind is blowing hard down here on the island. this is going to be a short season. :'(
