Shes finally done.. cant wait to test Sat : )
« on: Jan 16, 2019, 08:26 PM »

Open video to full screen i dunno why but cant see bottom part.

I put alot of hours tinkering and tweaking to get this just right and i totally changed the whole design to much more bullet proof and low key setup. Brighter led and 9volt battery. And every thing is sealed and water tight. Hope you like it

Once the flag is up does the light stay on and not blink if the spool isn't moving. Walleye fishermen will jump all over that. I hope you have a patent pending on that.
Fantastic job.

Thanks! The spool has metal key way that i added in 1 spot. Every time it passes infront of the sensor it turns light on then off once its out of range. The idea of it is to tell me what the spool is doing from a distance (fish is running or spit the bait) The on/off switch allows you to kill the power also when not fishing to save the battery incase the sensor gets tripped from metal objects.

Thanks man.. yeah iv looked into patents before on something else i tinkered with. Its can take 18months and you need to provide tons or paper work and drawings and stuff. Plus the cost like you said im all set. I got enough supplies to make 5 more so ill see if i can get the time to build cut down then decide if its even worth it to make em

Love it! Yeah patenting probably isn't worth it, you can make plenty before anyone rips you off enough for it to matter I'd think.

If you don't file for a patent, and someone else steals your idea, they can them claim that YOU stole their idea and sue, sue, SUE!!!

As an example, so you think that Ron Popeil (RONCO) thought up all those gadgets and products he sells on TV?

Sure, it cost money to patent an idea or product, but if you plan on making them as a side job or hobby and sell them, it wouldn't hurt to think about protecting you idea!

WOW!! Great idea, wondering if you could tweak the design to maybe have a blow horn or something go off every time as well to help the visually impaired. Can’t wait to see the next iteration

If you were to go off the "deep end" with design adaptations, instead of a flashing light, have it send a signal to your phone that would alert you without attracting (possible) unwanted attention.
Of course when you pull up the fish the secret will be out, but that's another thing altogether...

Already exists.  I forget the name of them deep blue or something like that.  Uses bluetooth.

That's true but patenting can cost tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars, and that's if it gets accepted at all. In the past when looking into patenting I've had patent attorneys say things to me like, "the first application is almost always refused as a matter of course". At a certain point you gotta ask yourself whether it's worth it and it's only the novelty and commercial viability of the idea that can tell you that.

Sounds like the OP has had a similar experience. Either way I'd be interested if the OP is able and inclined to produce more.

Yup I'd buy a kit too.  Also the idea of a fishing trap with a light that flashes when a fish is on may already have a patent pending!

They look great. When you decide how much you would need to charge to make more, let me know. I'd be interested in them too.
