Salting Suckers
« on: Oct 19, 2018, 06:55 PM »
I want to catch and save some suckers for ice fishing as dead bait.  If I catch them can I just keep them salted down and keep them in bags in the refrigerator till I want to use them?  Someone told me I don't have to freeze them in sealed bags because they will keep OK in salt without freezing.  Should I salt them and then vac pack them in sealed bags?

any help appreciated, thanks.

To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

I've been salting bait for years. I just use kosher salt and dry the minnow/eyeballs/sucker fillets on wax paper and a small fan on low and make minnow jerky out of the bait. Then plop it into a zip lock or plastic tub with a lid. Once hooked only takes a few seconds to re-hydrate. Stays on a hook very well. I've also done the brine and it works very well but I'm always looking for a faster way of doing things. I do think the salted bait catches more fish.

Thank you Lord for thinkin bout me. I'm alive and doin fine!!!!!!
