What species were you thinking of? I’ve only ever heard crappie (in the sunfish family) called calico bass, then there’s a salt water calico bass.
my favorite as well "slabs". found an out of the way pond that is loaded with black nose slabs as well. when the ice gets here i will get a few pics of these beauties.
