Ok, call it "too much time on my hands" but read something recently that got the ol' gray matter churning... just a little fun while we wait for ice.

1) What family of fish does the "calico" come from?

2) And of the two names that it's more commonly called...which is the one you prefer?

What species were you thinking of? I’ve only ever heard crappie (in the sunfish family) called calico bass, then there’s a salt water calico bass.

my favorite as well "slabs".  found an out of the way pond that is loaded with black nose slabs as well.  when the ice gets here i will get a few pics of these beauties.

Love me some in the winter...get a little mushy in the summer. People tell me they don't like them until I batter and fry them up with a mess of gills...then tell them what they just ate. ;D
