I am going to be in Lake Placid this weekend for my son's ice hockey tournament with plenty of time between games. Was thinking about investing in a NY fishing license and getting out on the ice. Is it worth it? Its a bit of a bust this year in the CT River Valley in MA. Thanks in advance!

Should be all the ice you can handle up there.

Review the regulations. I think ice fishing is prohibited on Mirror lake and lake placid. Saranac lake area may be an option for you. It’s not far from placid

Thanks! Working my way through those regs.
Will be grabbing a license for sure.

Correct on Mirror lake however ice fishing is permitted on Lake Placid

Lake Placid is not open for ice fishing.

Essex County:
All waters inhabited by trout except as permitted below - Ice fishing prohibited.
Lake Placid does not say "Ice Fishing Permitted", so by default it is prohibited.

Thanks for that clarification!

There is Connery (or maybe Connelly?) pond right there that people ice fish. Then yes lower Saranac. Also not that far away, Lake Clear, Colby and Lower St Regis.
