Lead battery voltage
« on: Dec 09, 2008, 08:40 PM »
What's the normal voltage on a 12V lead battery used on flashers?  I am getting 12.75V after its been sitting for 48hrs since it was last charged.  While charging it went as high as 15.3V (not a smart charger) and ten mins after the charge it was around 13.3V

I need to know if this battery is good or not.  Can I leave the flasher on all night to see if the battery holds enough charge to last through the night?  Will it damage anything when the transducer is not in the water?

lead acid batteries are 2.105 volts per cell X 6 for your 12 V battery = ~12.6 VDC I believe.  I don't believe leaving the ducer out of water will damage anything - I let my Marcum LX5 go for 6 hours on the bench when I first got it - no problems.
By your voltage measurements, it sounds as if your battery is OK - it at least does not have  dead cell.
