I guess if your not dead on the 17 by drowneding, I would venture out on the 24th, except deer season isn't over so it has to wait anyway.

It's never soon enough!!!

Girlfriend and I just bought a house two weeks ago and its completely gutted right now right down to the studs.  I'm in the middle of framing and plumbing and wiring all before the drywall contractor comes next week $35,000 in renos and I lay awake at night thinking of alterations I want to make to my hardside!!!

By the way does anyone know if I could claim my ice shack as a seasonal residence and get Manitoba Hydros Insulation incentives for it??

Does the Goverment still own MB hydro? and do you belong to a minority?

MB Hydro is a provincial crown corporation legislated to exist in this province.

Also, yes I do belong to a minority (a group of individuals that squander the last long weekend of the summer wishing it was the first weekend of winter)

Then I don't see any reason why with the equal and greater rights of the minorities, you should not be able to get a grant to pay to insulate your seasonal residence, this being Canada and everything ;D ::)

Since I've started ice fishing, there's always been fishable ice by the last weekend in November for sure.  I'll say Nov. 20....

There is nothing better thatn the first day out with a thermos of special coffee,a massive baloney sandwich and Grey Cup on the radio while you fish like crazy.  It's a uniquely Canadian experience!

I'm guessing that small lakes in the whiteshell will be good to go by November 15th.  Can't wait.
Let there be ice.

I think the one thing that keeps me safe is deer hunting season ends at the end of Nov. so I won't be testing the ice too soon, but I do need Ice in the beginning of Dec., I want to snowmobile into my cabin then to #1 get the trail in early and #2 to fish.

Just picked up a 4 man Ice Cube and a 10" power auger. Just need a Mr. Heater and a sled and I'm all set with new and more portable gear.

My mission this year is to break 25" on a trout and 40" on a northern. I've got my eyes on a couple spots that should be ready by mid-late Nov.
