Off a Milwaukee Fuel Gen2 review……"There are much subtler differences that you can only notice when the tool is taken apart like this. For one, the drive components are larger. To handle the higher torque, the chuck spindle connection is now 9/16″ wide, from 1/2″. To clarify, this is the connection between gearbox and chuck; the chuck is still a 1/2″ metal single-sleeve ratcheting type."So for us guys that have the 1st version Clam plate, we can't mount our drill adapter to this new Gen2 Milwaukee Fuels? Or am I not reading this right? If not, what a disappointment to wait for the new perfect drill for the plate and now can't get one.
Amazon doesn't seem to have the model 2703-22. But they have the 2604-22 for $224. That's the Hammer drill with 725 in/lbs of torque which is plenty, brushless motor and 2 4amp batteries.http://www.amazon.com/Milwaukee-2604-22-Cordless-Lithium-Ion-Hammer/dp/B0076O7182/ref=pd_sim_sbs_469_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=31PMd2cKhpL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=18DDMSEFH6FNQQ5XXQER
I currently only run a Dewalt Drill with around 450 in/lbs of torque....I have never had any problem with my nils 6 inch losing power or overheating or anything like that. Granted, I do have four 4ah batteries and have yet to run out of juice on the lake after 75+ holes. I think you guys going with the 750-1200 in/lbs of torque are going to love it! Might have to look into a bigger drill myself..Luva
Nice information everyone, I purchased a Strikemaster Lithium Lazer last year and loved it, but as you know they had a recall so I had to send it back, I hated to but now I am looking to go the electric auger route again.....I have enjoyed reading all the posts and thanks to everyone....you all made me make a decision to go with a clam drill plate and a Milwaukee drill so I thought I would return the favor on a super buy that I just purchased today at Bobs Tools in DesMoines, Ia. Milwaukee fuel 18V combo kit #2897-22 this kit comes with the 1/2" hammer drill/driver#2704-20 (1200in.lbs. torque) and the 1/4" hex impact driver #2753-20 comes with (2) 5ah batteries and charger AND they throw in another 4ah battery for free all for $299....til the end of October, hope this gets you all an early Christmas present as it did for me .. now cant wait to get the clam plate and put it into action this season...happy shopping all.
Shack man shoney…Tell us about the adapter being made to fit the old style plate to the new Gen2 Milwaukee Fuels? I know the threaded drill shaft has grown from 1/2" to 9/16". I was going to have my current 1/2" adapter retapped to 9/16", or I'm hoping I can. Is that what you're doing?
Yes that is exactly what I'm attempting..... I have a machinist working on it and I'm hoping to be able to post about it next week. I purchased (4) 1/2-20 adapters from Clam last week and we are trying to make them work with the new 9/16-18 thread spindle on the 1200 in/lb Fuel. I'm hoping It shouldn't be terribly difficult to do with a quality metal lathe and competent machinist. I will post when I have details on the outcome.....
