With none of my usual fishing partners available for Sunday, I decided to hit the north end of Bantam (for the 1st time) solo. Armed with with access/parking info from a buddy I arrived at 7 and picked a spot blind. Not knowing the water at all I punched enough holes for 4 guys
and began to check depths and set up my tipups. I set up live and dead baits from 6 fow to 15 fow and one of my dead baits in 9 fow goes off before I even finish setting up.
It had some weight and I thought it might be a small pike bit it was this fella...
I finished setting up and started jigging. Action was pretty decent and I landed about a doz small perch and a few sunnies. I had another flag on the same dead bait and as I approached it I could see the T was flying! I set the hook and knew I had a decent fish. It made a few runs right at me, (I thought I lost it more than once), and a few screamers away. Nice fight and a solid fish.
This was one FAT fish and it measured 32". Not huge but a very heavy fish and lots of fun to catch.
I had 2 more flags that resulted in one more pickerel and a miss. All in all a good morning to be out for a few hours. Glad I was able to get out before the pike season closes there.
