Just wondering if I am the only one to still seek out the goldenrod grubs.
-
I have never used them... did you have some real success to where you are wishing they were around? Please give some details about why these are better than the standard?
-
yeah, i do it as much for the fun of being outside as much as anything else....sometimes i also harvest some acorn grubs and i like to trap my own creek chubs. i could just buy bait but i like being outside. although, goldenrod grubs are such a huge pain. like eating crab legs.
one interesting thing about goldenrod grubs is that they can be frozen solid and they wont die from it. im not sure any other grub can do that. anyone know?
acorn grubs and goldenrod grubs definitely do work....maybe a new scent. plus in case you get early ice before your big bait order comes in you wont be empty handed.

If I could find some Milkweed pods around here, I sure as heck would!!!!! ;D

I still grab a few every year, They are a lot of work for such a small grub. It almost just adds a small morsel on the end of the hook. Can't say I have caught anything on them, but I don't believe I was at a high producing lake at the time. Still fun to grab a few every year though.

yep, getting my my grandson started now.

I know you can do the same thing with black eyed susan grubs.

When I was younger I was out on the ice and out of jigging bait, walked to shore, found some Golden Rod, spent a while finding some! Have not done it since...

Cant say I have ever tried them but I will this year. Maybe another tradition starter for the kids.
Wether they produce or not some things are just tradition. Plus for all the hunters out there it would probably supply you all year.

does anyone collect acorn grubs? if so, whats the trick to keeping them alive? ive had very marginal luck keeping them alive. bedding them in dirt seemed to be the best. but then you have to dig some up (out of your dirt container) before you go fishing.
-
I kept them in something called "Fat n Sassy". It is made by Frabil. It is like Frabil's worm bedding. The worms lasted until the following spring. The trick is to keep the bedding moist
