This weather seems a lot like 2011.... Although it was not as warm in 2011 it was still above average for this time of the year mid to upper 40's if I remember correctly

Had a quick question. Did Fisherman's Deli out by Riverhead ever get re-opened? And if not, is there anywhere else on the island to get live shiners or minnows?

There used to be a shop in Lake Ronkonkoma that had minnows, but they closed up years ago (never could understand why... they had a captive audience in that area). Never heard of anyone else on LI that carried live freshwater minnows...... you could try using saltwater minnows (catch them yourself in a cheap trap by any shore).

Thanks a lot for the info and suggestions. I did ask around and apparently J and J Bait and Tackle in Patchogue carries live shiners.

This winter is pretty spot on with how the 2011-2012 winter was... so whenever you were on the ice in 11-12 there a good chance this year will be around the same

I am in Sullivan county at Barryville!
Anyone know any lake,ponds etc for the ice fishing season!
Only ones I hit last year was lake Hutchinson and taxpayers pond!
Any suggestions?

Santa doesnt bring safe ice till the second week of Jan here in Dutchess (depending on where you are). We are hopeful to get some soon.

Till then I'll pull the yak out and still catch them!!

I believe its known on the map as Toasperns Pond ...not sure of any public access ...what species are in there?

That's the same one , the person who told me about it calls it taxpayers for whatever reason, it's public ,but no parking spot just pull over, caught shad and perch in there, was a good first experience ! People snowmobile on it a lot, dunno how much that effects fishing.

i have found that lots of snowmobles on the ice almost kills the fishing for that day

People, how the hell are we gonna be on the ice by mid january when the lows are bareley gonna be freezing the next 10 days. we are gonna need a week of highs in the teens just to be on the ice by feb. Wishful thinking, i wish some of you were right but it does not look good.
