Greetings fellow south east NY. ice fishermen , just wanted to pass the word that Thruway Sporting goods in Walden has a limited selection of ice fishing gear out on display. I saw mostly sleds ,tipups, creepers and augers. I hope to see some of you at the preseason gathering ,hopefully I can get the day off from work.

Went in there today to pick up something for deer season that was on sale and to my surprise it looks like they will actually have a decent selection of ice fishing stuff this year. They actually have flashers on the shelves (although its only a marcum VX 1 and LX-5) it's still better than nothing! They do have some of the lures I like to use but I'll still use fishusa since its cheaper to order online from them.... wish they had a lx6 or lx7 as that is what I plan on upgrading to this year. Would like to see what it feels like since I like to hole hop around the area i set my tip ups up.

Greetings just wanted to post this info. there was an article in Saturday's Times Herald Record looks like Cabelas is backing out of it's plan to build a store in the town of Woodbury. Article mentioned lower sales the past few years. Town of Woodbury and Orange county officials are trying to get Cabelas to reconsider ,wonder what incentives they will offer. No mention of Cabelas-Bass Pro merger/buy out posted in a thread found in General Community.

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone .

If it wasn't for the couple of warm days coming up I would say we could have ice by early to mid December on small ponds.... couple ponds by me were skimmed over the past 2 mornings. The water is ready just need the temps to back it up. I'd be fine with no safe ice till after Dec. 13th tho still have some sitting in the woods to do!

CENTRAL VALLEY – Orange County and state officials are trying to get Cabela’s to reconsider its decision to not build one of its outdoor sports super stores off Route 32.

A telephone conference call was held last week with Cabela’s real estate development office to convince it that the site would be a lucrative addition to the company’s 77-store chain. Its closeness to Woodbury Common Premium Outlets and the Thruway were among the attributes discussed.

“It’s not dead yet,” Bill Fioravanti, director of business attraction for the Orange County Partnership, said Friday. He said those urging Cabela’s to reconsider included Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus, and Empire State Development.

“We tried to understand their issues,” Fioravanti said. “It was a corporate decision not based on the site … They asked for time to digest it.”

The company apparently backed away for economic reasons. It had started preliminary site work on the site near the Thruway entrance.

Cabela’s CEO Tommy Millner discussed plans to reduce new store construction last month in a statement to shareholders. The 13 new stores the company opened this year in 11 states and Canada have not met the company’s sales expectations.

“Accordingly we are evaluating our 2016 and 2017 store opening schedule,” Millner said. “At this time we plan to open seven stores in 2016 and no more than that in 2017.”

He did not indicate how many new-store projects were canceled. A reporter’s four telephone calls between Monday and Friday to Nathan Borowski, communications specialist for Nebraska-based Cabela’s, were not returned.

“We absolutely believe it would be an extremely profitable location for them,” Fioravanti said. “We pointed to Woodbury Common right down the road.”

Cabela’s planned an 85,000-square-foot store on 14 acres behind a park-and-ride lot.

Orange County planners observed last year that the construction could interfere with the state’s plans to expand the commuter lot, and with building a ramp off Route 32 to relieve Thruway-bound traffic congestion.

Cabela’s designers were sensitive to the issues, Planning Commissioner David Church has said, and worked to preserve the highway project

I think we are going to have ice right around the same time as we normally do late December (for my area). Ponds are already skimming over which means the water temps are there just need the hi temps about 10-15* colder than they are.

Hahaha.  Sad isn't it?

I finally broke down and bought ANOTHER auger. This one is the Fin Bore 3, a six inch   I can't
Wait to get out and use it. I'm paring it up with my Ice Master drill adapter and my Milwaukee M18 drill. That  should make life much easier for the early season.

I almost bought an Ion for $375 instead of $530from ktp but I missed the fine print where it said the discount is not valid on augers.... tried checking out and it wouldn't let me place the order lol

I just bought the same auger! Bought it through our sponsor, Fish307 and shipping was very reasonable. I also stopped by the Gander Mountain in Middletown to pick up wool socks during their black friday sale and couldn't help but notice the Black Betty 6061 inline reels they had in stock. There was a $20 off $100 deal that was just too good to pass up...
