for those that commented on the bridge. I was there all day today, 7-8 inches,  5 1/2 black + 2 white. only managed 5 perch (was going for EYES). if you are walking in near the public boat launch. be careful, first couple steps are a bit crunchy.  Goodluck out there.

Has anyone been out on Greenwood lake yet. Just wondering if there's any safe ice.

nice eats there LM , I wish to get out this weekend but hopefully during the week after the crazy rain /ice weather.. today must be awesome on any the lakes..Anybody have the latest on Harriman? Somebody here mentioned some park officials measured just shy of green flaqs for some gates.. i will likely call during the week,, suppose melt snow and refreeze all later in the week..  perhaps this season is looking good for plenty safe ice soon ;D

Should be good to go after Tuesday pretty much everywhere looking at the weather..... hopefully the temps in the upper 40's later in the week isn't correct and if it is at least it will be at or somewhat below freezing at night.

Went to Sullivan yesterday.
Had a very good day of fishing on 4 to 5 inches of black ice.
That was a blust! Almost non-stop action for 5 hours.
Ended up with over 30 yellow perches (half of them in 11-12"range) and 4 pickerels - on the smaller side.

Pickerels and biggest perch - on tip-ups, the rest - plain old jigging Siberian style. :)
Here are the couple of pictures - beginning of the day and final product - ready to cook perch.

And yes - I'm Russian and we are considering fish eggs a delicacy! :) :) :)

Upton had about 5 inches of ice, with snow on it.  It was a very slow day out there.  I didnt get anything, but others did.

ColdFusion it was good to see you again, and Trapper it was nice to meet you and your son.  Hopefully we can get our own South East gathering together, aside from Huntington.  Ha ha ha.

Lets see what next weekend brings!!

Best Fish's

PWG and LM pictures remind me of the fresh smell of perch fillets ;D.. I sure am looking forward to Harriman Corndog.. if it ain't this week, I'm planning greenwood lk ..I am only going to jig and use my hand augers in search of those delicacies ;) I hope my schedule is loose for the later part of this week after tomorrows rain melt and next day big freeze. I would really have my mind set for enjoying a winter park  Harriman if they open but any local area including greenwood is fine for day tripping.

do you need a permit to fish chadwick lake in newburg, or can i just show up and fish? are there any other lakes in the newburg area that offer public access. i travel about 45 minutes every week to get my bait down there and was wondering if there are any lakes nearby that i can try.

  • I FISH BECAUSE THE VOICES IN MY HEAD TELL ME TO!!
Tipup28....... If yo're already travelling 45 mins to Newburgh for bait....your best bet is to ask the bait dealer about some local lakes.  It is in his best interest to direct you to good fishing so you'll come back to him again!!

Tipup28 I believe you need a permit for Chadwick Lake available form the Town of Newburgh Recration dept. . A bit of a trip for you off of rt.17k is Winding hills park has a 40 acre lake with yellow perch and bluegills. This is an Orange county run Park so call before going to see if you can fish. They have regulations similar to Harriman and Sterling. Below are some phone numbers that maybe of help to you and others.

Winding Hills park ranger station (845)-457-4918,   Thruway Sporting goods 78 Oak St. Walden,NY. (845)-778-1400, Ward's Bait& Tackle 12b Little lane (off RT.52) Newburgh,NY. (845)-518-4274  Borden Road bait shop 348 Borden road (off of Rt.208) Wallkill,NY. (845)-895-3915   (this is the hamlet of Wallkill in Ulster county not town of Walkill which is Middletown area in Orange county)

If I lived up by you, I'd be targeting all the sweetwater lks and ponds further north just above Albany,, I am not sure where in Ulster you reside but, you are less half the milage to great fishing regions in nys.. Saratogo, copperstown.. the lower ADK  region and many far better ice fishing opportunities.. than Esopus creek or tidal waters on the polluted Hudson river. good luck all the same
