Floors on portables
« on: Nov 27, 2007, 08:34 PM »
Is it a good idea to glue some marine carpet to the floor of the Clam 5600? I see that the Shapells 3000 and 4000 have carpet glue down on their. I thought it would help from slipping when the snow or slush on a person's boot met the plastic floor. Or is this something not to worry about?

Myself, I have a WELCOME mat on the outside, so if you are coming in whipe your feet. No really it is a good idea. Yours didn't come with carpet? Call clam because mine did. You got ripped off of they forgot to put it in. It's also a good idea so your spikes or cleats don't break or put holes in the floor.(((((FLAG)))))

the carpet will hold water and when you fold it up, your canvas will sit against that wet carpet.  You could get those grippy things that all of our grandma's put in the bottom of their bath tubs ;D

If you put carpet on the floor, make sure it's an open loop type. You will know what I mean when you have a good crappie bite going and you miss fish because your jig keeps getting snagged on the carpet. I would go with anti skid tape found at hardware stores. ;)
Looking forward to some "crappie" nights!

Tried rubber backed outdoor/indoor carpet.  It holds water, when you use the heater the water in the carpet condenses on the roof and walls of the shack making it rain inside.  I tossed it after two days.  No more condensation problems.  Not worth it.  I do use a welcome mat outside the doorway as already mentioned.

How about something more like a rubber anti fatigue mat with the holes in it, like they use in a lot of entrances?

That rubber mat is heavy. How about just rolling up the carpet and taking it out when you aren't fishing.(sounds good to me)

Maybe want to try some of those foam pads sold at Sam's. They are keyed together on the edges. You get 8  2'x2' pads for around 20.00. Put together they are 4'x8'. I use them at work all the time to protect floors from damage. Also comfortable to stand on when working on concrete. :D
Looking forward to some "crappie" nights!

I'll have to write them to see if they forgot to install the carpet in mine. Cabela's sells marine carpet starting at $19.00 for a 3x6 piece.

So does walmart for half the price.
