Collins boys in holden finally took a big one...
« on: Nov 26, 2007, 05:29 PM »
My 12 year old brother put a round of .243 into this buck saturday morning.  He called me up, and we waited an hour before tracking it... we swaped in the rifles for shotguns, because it ran into a thick cedar swamp.

he bled good for a while, but after a couple hundred yards, it petered out some... we caught up with him, and i fired 2 rounds of 3.5" double-ott.  The buckshot breakfast was just the ticket. he made it another hundred yards.... but thats it.

10 points, 24;1/4 inside spread
184 lbs on the scale at Van Raymond Outfitters.

This is 12 year old, John's First whitetail..... it'll be hard to out-do next year!

Nice scatter gun.  Looks like the sister to mine!  What is the gun laying on the ground behind your foot?

the one in the back is john's- my 12 year old bro's 20 g.  870 turkey exress...
the one under my foot is the SKS that i loan my other brother, mike..he shoots it single shot style(not ready for a semi auto yet) he's 10 .
mine, "big bertha" didnt make the pic.  benelli nova 12 ga., 3.1/2"

yea the buck was great.. and is already at the taxidermist's place---- shoulder mount...

i had to, this could be the biggest one he takes.. some people wait an entire lifetime for that opportunity, and the story will be alot more vivid 20 years from now, when the buck is right behind him as he tells it.

those two boys are becomming some of the best woodsmen in their age group, ive ever heard of.. we start them young...both of them are good, ethical, safe hunters and sportsmen. Thats becomming less and less common these days.  im very proud.  rightfully so.
