How can you tell the diference between a male and a female fish? Always wondered.

To see the difference between male and female pike you have to check the vent area.
Males vent area is shaped like a key hole and females vent area is more of a 8 in shape.

These 2 are a male and female musky, but there appearance would be similar for pike since they are related.


This time of year the females will be carrying a far amount of eggs and will have a large belly area.

Silly me, I taught my boys the difference when they were 4 and 5. As a joke I told them that you can tell the difference because the female is the one with the mouth open. man did that make for some interesting times at the fish cleaning station.
