Porter Lake / Cable Lake
« on: Jan 03, 2019, 08:54 AM »
Just wondering if either of these are very accessible or if they are private lakes.  Located NW of Crystal Falls / Amasa area.  Thank you.

Porter is private and only accessible via creek that crosses the road.  So probably not this time of year.  Cable has a public landing.  It is plowed if there is logging back there.  Not much snow now so you shouldn't have a problem driving in with a 4 x 4.  9 mile ride in from 141.  Usually part of it is plowed.

You cant drive to either lake in the winter. You need snowmobiles to access the lake in winter time. Its about a 7 mile ride from where you can park if coming from the east. We usually fish the pike tourny in february and its quite a haul then.

We were able to drive directly into Cable lake last January without any trouble.  This was the second week.  Seems like there is even less snow this year.  The sign posted by the DNR states 9 miles posted at junction of US141 & Cable Lake Rd but we have not tested it.  Out of the 9 miles, there is a section that is generally plowed but not that much.

Yeah, I am pretty sure the drive in would not be a problem based on the little snow we've had.  If I do not fish LBDN this weekend, I will be heading up there.

Good luck!  We caught small walleye (but legal) and pretty big rock bass
