Tiber/Lake Elwell
« on: Feb 14, 2012, 07:28 AM »
I'm heading to Tiber this weekend and was wondering about the fishing up there.  Any reports?  How are the roads to the Reservoir?

Call the fella at Chester dry cleaners 759-5265 or Robert bait and tackle 454-1877 if you don't get any replies here. Heard it was kinda slow fishing.

I was there from last wednesday to mid day sunday with two other guys. We did ok on pike and perch but the walleye bite was slow. According to the locals it has been slow all winter. Apparently the best walleye fishing is in the main lake. Our biggest pike was 15lbs and we caught a few more between 10 and 14. Caught one walleye about 5lbs. I would be curious to hear how you did when you get back.

Thanks for the info, we'll be stopping at Robert's Bait & Tackle, so we'll ask him on the way up.  He's not too pleased with some young Helena people partying on the ice, running over tipups and shooting off guns last weekend.

Actually Tiber was great fishing.  Lots of nice sized pike and tons of perch.  Walleye catching was slow.

Thanks for the report. What size perch? Dinks or keepers?

Most of them were dinks, but we brought up nice ones jigging and another bunch off of tipups.  They love to finesse the minnow off the hook that's for sure.  You could jig all day and come up with little ones.
