Burlington Open Water
« on: Apr 10, 2015, 07:39 AM »
Some very small patches of ice left out there but I came in this morning to see a very unfamiliar thing, WHITE CAPS!!

The broadest part here in Burlington has opened up!!

Happy Trout season everyone!

might try getting down to Long Point this weekend to try with the boat if there's enough water.
May the fish be with you.

Same here, looking to drag the boat to Champlain bridge Saturday morning.  That said, I might be able to get after salmon by next weekend.  The conditions are changing fast.  I just watched a huge chunky island of ice off juniper island disappear with a half hour from waves crashing on it.

Woohoo

With the wind the way it is any ice not in a sheltered bay may be gone by tonight.
May the fish be with you.

Are there any launches that are opened up yet? Or is there still shore ice?

Thinking of putting in at the mouth of the Winooski on Sunday. Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day. Has anyone been down there lately? Do you know if it's open?

Very windy out there and with the rain, the rivers are rising, so I wouldn't be surprised if the open lake is mostly clear now.
May the fish be with you.

There must be at least some ice out there still, since the news last night had a plane going through the ice near Milton, VT.
May the fish be with you.

The inland sea is still locked up, but broad lake is all open ... at least up almost to the Grand Isle ferry crossing.  There is no open path for the ferries anymore since all of the ice from the lake ended up there with the south winds!

I made it out of the mouth of the winooski tonight.  then cruised up to mallets.  Markin fish all over the deep ledges out side the mouth.  feeding on the delta bait fish i assume.

So now with it getting colder and the ice thickening up, is anybody sharpening their augers up and dusting off the boots yet?
May the fish be with you.
