steep drop offs

i have a ? on a really steep dropoff it goes down really fast and at the bottom on the drop off 20ft there is some trees down there and always get snaged on then and soo should i fishi on the drop of like when its going down or at the bottom by the wood ??! and the drop off is right from shore if that matters any thanks for the info!!

I have found crappies generally will suspend away from the drop off in nearby open water. They will be at the same level as the drop off usually in the deeper water. So if your fishing 20 feet away from the drop off in 25 feet of water, and the drop off is at 15 feet, the crappies will usually be about 15 feet  down over the 25 feet of water.
