If you had a choice
« on: Dec 12, 2008, 01:34 PM »
If you had a choice to Ice Fish anywhere in the world and with only one other person where would you go and with who ?

I would choose a remote lake in some place like Alaska and with my maker .

For me it will be Lake Nipissing with my three sons (4 yrs. and 8 month old twins) when they are old enough.  We will get a hut for 3 or 4 days.  Stay out on the ice.  Wake up and fish in the shack in the morning while a breakfast casserole bakes in the oven.  Eat, then head out to explore the lake for some good spots and eat lunch on the ice.  By 3:00 we will head for a good walleye shoal for the night bite.  Get back to the hut about 8:00 for dinner (walleye/perch one night for sure).  Eat.  Be sure to get outside after dark to just look and listen to the wonderfull place we are in and then head in to play cards or a board game or such.  All the while soaking in the fact that if I'm doing this then I have passed along to my kids the passion I have for fishing and the outdoors.

The final chapter will be when I'm not just their "old man" but also just an old man and they are bringing me along as I once did them.

In my mind I'm there right now as I write this.  Well almost.

Gods Lake way the hell up in Manitoba in late April  ;D  I don't care who the hell comes with me...

I get up there every August for a week. Pike to 48", walleye in the low 30's, lakers that might not fit through a 10" hole... I get goose bumps just thinking about it.  ;D

Big St. Germain with my Grandpa - he taught me to fish, but I was young when he passed so I would like to sit on a bucket all day talking to him and catching jumbo perch and eater walleyes.

If I could fish anywhere (if it was regardless of rules and regs) here in Maine it would be King and Bartlett Lake. It's a flyfishing only lake that drops down way over a hundred feet deep. I'm convinced there must be some monster lake trout in there cause you can only get a fly line down so deep. I'd go with my girlfriend.......or maybe all the Victorias Secret models.  ;D

My great grandma Elmer. I would have never started fishing if not for her. The tat was one of her more common sayings. I'm sure she dropped it more than once on our fishing trips. lol. I'd fish a mud puddle if I could with her. She was the first person I had ever known with a pocket fisherman.

I would go to Lapland sweden or no finland with a busty norweigian girl who was into atlantic salmon, campfires, and ice fishing. What the heck call me shallow...I'd take my wife if she was excited about it..but you can't beat an experience norweigian girl on the ice...under the starry night at least that's part of the romance and allure of the sport in my mind...

google ice fishing swedish lapland if you don't believe me!
