I keep 20 in the house and 1 out side or in the freezer depending upon the temps. Tip the 20 over and refill outside to prevent stinking up the house.

That's about as smart as using a hair dryer in a bathtub full of water.

It gets a negative wrap because you only hear about the people that get injured.
You don't hear about the 1000's of other people that do it successfully (I don't actually know the ratio).

People get in car crashes daily yet you still drive because it's an appealing alternative to walking, biking or taking the bus.
See you on the ice!

If i remember right, I paid $2.50 for a 1lb tank... I like my house

I'd hate to think someone is stupid enough to refill in their house.

Problem is, they are not MADE to be refilled. Ya, you can, but you can also shoot an arrow at that apple on your dog's head...

Manchester Tank will provide equipment for filling the refillable 1 lb. cylinders only to licensed LP gas dealers and distributors and will not make this equipment available for purchase by the general public.

(Image removed from quote.) Dude, get a one-gallon/4-5lb tank.  Cost for the pros to refill it is about like buying one of the 1-lb cans.  Much easier to cart around than a 20-lb, you get the savings, and it lasts 4x longer.  Pays for itself in nothing flat, and no boom at home.  I love mine--used it for many years now.
And it does not freeze up and burn rich chasing you out of you hut like a 1lb tank in the cold does.... I would carry a 100lb tank if I could...

I used to fill 1lbers all the time but after dealing with leaking tanks and the thought of blowing up always in the back of my mind I decided to pick up a 5lb tank ($45). Now when its empty I can stop at the filling station a mile from the house to have them fill it up. They don't have a minimum fill size but I always buy a 12 pack of beer or something else to make it worth their time/effort of going out in the cold to fill my 5lb tank. Its fairly light, takes up little room, and I can have it filled by a professional with the right equipment.

Do this ALL OUT SIDE. DO NOT SMOKE. Freeze your 1lb. tanks and keep you 20 lb. warm. Tip 20lb up side down,We fill for 1 min then shut off.
Keep track of how many times you fill your small tanks. One min. does not  fill compleat but about 7/8 so it is very close. You can weigh them if you want, but I never have. Did this for years, I would fill them 7 to eight times.

Yes, this subject gets beat to death once it twice every winter. It's worse than "Best Hand Auger".

Changed my middle name to "You should have been here yesterday".         Remember it's called fishing, not catching.

What about the annual "camera or flasher which should I buy first"?
I admit it is always like

Serious question:  Say a newb finds one of the 75 page hashes, and it doesn't exactly hit the angle he's looking for?  Or it is old and he wants to see what's new on the topic?  If he replies to the old thread, he gets this message:

"Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 120 days.  Unless you're sure you want to reply, please consider starting a new topic. "

Please consider starting a new topic.

Didn't search at all?  OK that might merit a reminder to search and avoid the rehash.  Like a newb that posts on a general  board, "I just moved here and what lure should I use on Lake Whatchacallit?"

But with the system saying please consider starting a new topic, is it automatically bad to rehash now and then?

Not trolling.  Serious question.

Ok ok..sorry i didnt do a "search" on this topic..the reason?? This is one example. Last week i had xmas eve and day off.. one i spent fishing and the next one with family. HOWEVER..my typical work week. I bust my *ss for an average of 62  hours mon through friday and fish sat and sun. So it doesnt leave me much time to SEARCH. I figured by posting a question on it here i could just get a answer to my ?? ..which. normaly i can but i sure didnt think id get the amount of crap posted here. Either answer the ? Or dont. I dont care about anyones opinons on how many times its been asked.
For those that did respond to my actual ? ..thank you. I filled 3 tanks yesterday and tried them while i was out fishing. And all went good. I paid $10.00 for the adapter and had the empty tanks. For a 2 pack of tanks at the store it almost $6.00. I generally fish sat and sunday so that $6.00 goes quick.
So again thanks for the advice and tips guys.

The greater the temp difference between the 20 lb and 1 lb tanks is the key to filling them. I keep 20 in the house and 1 out side or in the freezer depending upon the temps. Tip the 20 over and refill outside to prevent stinking up the house. It usually takes another cooling and refilling to get them completely full. I've refilled the same tanks dozens of times. A 20 lb and hose, is a better way to go, but hauling a 10 lb tank is not always practical. Paying $4-$6 for 2 tanks is for suckers.

I agree 100% with everything you said.
