My flip shanty build
« on: Dec 28, 2011, 03:09 PM »
Had these bolts welded on for my post pivots, i bought some weldable steel, cut and bent it to a bracket.
Heres what it looks like from in side, i used 3/4 conduit for base poles, and 1/2 for it could slide in side to extend poles.
The base sled, constructed with 1x2's and aluminum. and two skis.
i bought a Eskimo Grand Caravan shell to fit my build. Got it on Ebay for $150. rather than having a custom canvas made because the estimate was around $400-$500 dollars for ice shanty canvas.
Heres a look from inside where the master will be at his favorite job. hope you like, Many tweaks, adjustments and mod's in process now!

Looks awesome! Have you any ice in your area to test it?

Looks really nice. What is the overall weight and cost of building supplies compared to buying a tub?

The weight is around 125 lbs. roughly, mainly because of the plastic decking I used for my surface. I may still remove that for something a little lighter. Overall cost was about $250. $150 for the canvas top. I really like this rather than the tub sled bc it will be easier to pull in deep snow and the elevated top gives me the ability to out my heater behind me rather in my fishing area. And my light also. Thanks!

That's awesome!
I thought about building one last year to put on a jet sled that I bought, but instead I bought a two man Clam.  Maybe I'll build one now that I have something to take measurements from.  I think that I will build mine out of 1" EMT so that it is similar to an Otter flipover.

I got the 1.5 man skin for about $40 and am going to be doing the same type thing.  Im going with a tub sled like original though.

Real nice job. That thing is going to pull real easy. Let us know how you like it after the field testing.

This thread is 2 years old.  You'd think the field testing would be done by now.
