I'm counting tipups and jig poles as one here.
Here in colorado we can only have 2 lines :'(
both can be a tipup, or neither can be a tipup, or you can have 1 tipup and 1 jig pole.
I think this is pretty unfair to us, but what are you guys allowed? Seems I'm reading a lot of you are having 10 tipups and jig poles :o sure wish I could have that :'(
-
I am also only allowed 2.
-
In NY your allowed 5 tip-ups with up to 15 hook points on each and 2 jig poles. Get 3 guys together and 15 tip-ups, you can cover some water. ;D
-
You guys make me want to vomit
Here in BC Canada we are allowed only one line with one hook >:(
But in summer you can use 2 lines in a boat if you are alone.
So when I go icefishing sometimes I would like to bring a blow up dingy and drill 2 holes and put the boat in the middle ;)
-
here in alaska most lakes for northerns your allowed 5 tipups or jigs
-
two lines anyway you want em in sask :-[
-
maine lets you have 5 lines, any combo
-
Buildit', don't forget that we have a few "trophy" lakes where you're only allowed two lines.
-
In Ma. it is 5 lines any combo. :)
-
In Mass. you are allowed 5. hopefully we can start using them soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
smitty
-
:D pheonix , it was more omit than forget. maines laws get very complex from lake to lake so rather than well you know ::)...but now that you mention it,it may spark some good conversation,or whatever it is we do ;D where are these "trophys" anyway ??
-
Here in Minnesota it's 2 lines. However you choose to use them.
-
HI ALL
here in quebec its 5 tip up,,,,,,,,,,,in ontario around here is 2 tip up
there some hard to get stuff about that,,,,,,,,,,
I fish a lot on the ottawa river ,,,,,,,like you no the ottawa river is the border off quebec and ontario province,,,,,,,so its cut 1/2 1/2 in the midle.......
So you can used 2 tip up on the ontario side and 5 on the quebec side,,,,,,on the same river ???
and the ottawa river is the only place (quebec side)that you can used live minnows
in quebec no live minnows and in ontario you can use some............
take care guys and have a great ice season ;)
-
In Pennsyvania it's also 5 lines any combination ;D
flaggggg
-
Here in CT, it's 6 lines. I am lucky enough to be able to fish with Bob D on Lake Champlain in VT every year, you are allowed 15 lines there :o We have had some VERY busy days there ;D
-
3 lines in WI. Any combination. Bring the kids along and were up to 9.
-
6 lines total for non-lake trout lakes.
2 lines total for lake trout lakes.
That is here in the "live free or die trying" state of Cow Hampshire
-
In Vt it depends on the lake...
Lake Champlain (Vt side) 15 lines.
Most other lakes 8 lines.
2 trout lakes in the NEK (Little Averil and Seymour) 4 lines
Just FYI....I believe on the NY side of Lake Champlain you are allowed 15 tip-up and 2 hand lines.
-
4 lines regardless of season here in SD
-
Here in Michigan you are allowed only 2 lines, use them any way you like. Just in the past few years they have allowed 3 lines for trolling the great lake and tributaries I'm hoping they will extend this to all lakes year round trolling or not. I live very close to the Indiana border so I fish there a lot in Indiana it's 3 lines anyway you want to use them. I have a hard time imagining using 15 tip ups, on a good day you would be busyer than a one legged man in a a$$ kicking contest!
-
Ohio is 2 lines but if we go over to Kentucky as many as you please.same in Tenn.
-
New York gives us 2 hand lines and 5 tipups or 5 tipdowns for a total of 7 if you're game. I only need one jig pole and I'm all set but some guys go for the max.
Really depends on where we are at during season.Somedays I use 1 pole. Other day's I put the tip-ups in.I always carry them sometimes they are great fish locators,Too bad your sharing the information with everone within sight of you.
-
Here in colo you can use 2 lines if you buy the second rod stamp($4.00).I go fish in wyo. a lot cause there's a bunch of lakes where you can use 6 lines!
-
In Manitoba, it's 2 lines, any combo of rods/tipups.
-
Alberta, Canada, two lines anyway. Summer, only one.
-
4 lines regardless of season here in SD
[/quote
Hey Mr. G. South Dakota allows 4 lines through the ice only. Open water you can only have two. See page 33 of the 2004 Fishing Handbook. Fishtale]
-

The 2 line limit in Sask for a province this size, with that many lakes and so few people really surprises me, as does the limit in other states and provinces. I feel fortunate to be in NY where the 7 line limit ( 5 tip-ups plus 2 jig lines ) is allowed. Granted, we are blessed with many bodies of water to fish, but we also have 19 million residents competing for the fish, so I am surprised our state allows so many lines. You fisherman in Sask and other places may get the last laugh though. If there are a lot of lightly fished lakes, then 2 tip-ups could be more productive than the 5 I am allowed. 500 tip-ups would not help me if the place is fished out. I have been totally skunked on too many days using 5 tip-ups, or even 10 in Champlain. Put another way, it's not how many lines you can have in the water that counts, it's the number of fish laying on the ice.
-
Ohio is 2 lines but if we go over to Kentucky as many as you please.same in Tenn.
Wives, too! ;)
-
In Illinois we are allowed 3 lines 2 jig poles and a tip-up 2 tip-ups 1 jig pole either combination.
Bob
-
jocco was right 5 lines total in Quebec and i think it's not enough especially for lake trout and ellpout.you guys in u-s must make pressure on your local administration to change that.(2 lines max) >:(
meanwhile take kid and wife out whit you it allows you to put a lot of tips-up ;D
-
Here in Indiana, we are allowed 3 lines with only two hook . Any combinations jigging pole and two tip ups or all tip ups.
-
In Michigan we have spearing through the ice season for pike, we also have a lottery for spearing sturgen. This takes place on one lake (black) usually just one day. I talked with a guy who has done this he said that the sturgen tastes like pork. He gave it a lite breading and deep fried bite sized cubes. Sure sounds good. I remember one year the season only lasted 35 min. That's how long it took to get that years limit.
-
here in wisconsin we're allowed 3 lines , both during open water and on the ice
as far as spearing goes , i think only the indians are allowed to spear and there is much controvercy over the issue as i have personaly seen 2 guys haul out 75 walleyes last spring and just dont see how thats legal or right
ant other opinions???
-
i think we should at least be able to have one jigging rod plus two tip ups so you could jig for perch while pike fishing
-
Like edfalc said, here in wisconsin, we can have 3 lines, and as far as i know, you can spear here. At least on lake Superior anyway. I know a couple of people that aren't native american that spear. Oh yeah I forgot though, it's for pike only, and they have to be the legal size of 26". I also have seen natives take many, many fish, and i think a stop should be put to this.
-
you guys aren't allowed as many lines as I thought, but still a lot more than 2 like here in colorado, and that is if I pay the $4.00 american which to you canadian chaps is like $200 ;D ;) ;)(no offense intended, you guys have better looking money than our ugly money after all)
-
WI boys - just a word of warning - Here in cheesehead country, it's three "baits", not three lines. If you're using three lines all with jigging rapalas (technically three hooks each, 9 hooks total, 3 lines total) you're perfectly legal. But, if you're using one line with 4 individual jigs (one hook each, 4 hooks total, 1 line total) tied to it you're illegal. Don't go gett'n fined over some goofy technicality.

don't poke fun IFB by new years our dollar will bite yours on the ass!! 8)
-
2 here anyway u want'em in south dakota. And sumthin like only 3 hooks max per pole
-
In Florida you get as many ice fishing poles, hooks on each line, and tip-ups as you want. One problem there is never ice. ;D
-
YoungIcer -
Right now, the Cdn dollar is worth around 84-85 cents US...the highest it has been in quite a few years.
-
In Ohio you can use 2 rods (up to 3 hooks on each) and 6 tip-ups per person.
-
I wanted to bring this up and instead of a new topic thought I would resurrect this older thread....
-
In NH, its 2 lines in Lake Trout/Salmon waters. And 6 lines just about everywhere else.
-
Since this thread is a few seasons old... Maybe a few laws have changed?
NY is 5 traps and two hand lines except on lake Champlain where it is 15 tip-ups.
Just a wacky thought ....NY goes out of the way to say tip-ups are not angleing, so the 15 hook points and 5 baits per line apparently does not apply to tip-ups. ??? No one can tell for sure if there is a limit to the number of hooks on a tip-up.
-
Here in Minnesota it's 2 lines. However you choose to use them.
Dirtball2,.......How long has it been 2 lines in Minnesota? Several(about 20) years ago a friend and me was in a boat on Leech lake when you were only allowed 1 line and my friend got ticketed because he was using 2 poles. I told him the law was 1 pole but he wouldn't listen.

Or maby an inflatable doll but be sure they are licensed. :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:  :woot:
-
Eastern Montana as a general rule is 6 lines and any combination of but ya gotta be careful as it can vary from one body of water to the next. ;D and western Montana has all kinds of different rules. :roflmao: :roflmao:

Like I said Guys, I brought this back from the dead so a few of the comments are from 2004

GUILTY ;)

I'll be 49 this year and just have to face reality that when I bought my house in 1986 and was paying less than 900.00 bucks a year in school & property Taxes. Now for the same property am paying over 4000.00 in a rural area (one traffic light). The guy down the road from me who just built a new house is over 10,000.00 for school and land Taxes.
Don't want to leave but, unless the tax man says other wise, the writing is on the wall.
-
Mass 5 lines, That sucks in Canada that you are allowed inly 1 line
-
That depends on how far I am from a conservation officer. In northern manitoba Ice fishing allows 2 lines. Only one line for non ice fishing. You can split that one main line into 2 lines with a pickeral rig. Have to use barless hooks and dead minnows too. Lifes rough sometimes
