New Years Pile-O-Gills
« on: Jan 09, 2008, 06:23 PM »
Fished a lake in northern Indiana with my father New Years morning in a snow storm.  Bite was steady in the AM becoming sporadic late AM.  After being very selective on size, keeping nothing under 8", we managed 27 gills.  Nice way to start the New Year!!!

See pictures below...

A winter wonder land with willing gills!!!

Good luck and stay safe!

Iceman...Im intrigued by how you are holding your rod in pics 1 and 2....do you find a benefit to holding it reel up or just a personal preference?

icejunky - That is actually my father, I am in the last picture.  Not sure why he is holding it that way.  When I first looked at the pictures I was like what in the world is he doing...?  I think he had a kink in his spring bobber so he was holding up side down so he still had some play in it...

Icewarrior - Channel off of the main lake.  Channel has some shallow spots where you can sight fish an icefly for big crappies and gills...Very FUN!!!  Farther into the channel it drops from 3 FOW to 11 FOW.  We were fishing the deeper water right after the drop off.

Friend of mine took just under 200 8" plus gills out of this channel in 5 trips.
