Here it is fellas!
Judging by another thread there's quite a demand for a gathering this year.
Southbay has quickly been agreed upon by Combsey, step2jimi, RoundlakeNY, and I. That can still be left open to change to Schroon or elsewhere in the area if enough people call for it.
We did this on Lake George 2 years ago and had a blast. We just set a date and time and showed up. No obligations fellas. Keeping it as simple as possible keeps it the most fun. Bringing some sort of food to share is more than welcome, but again, no obligations. I've got a little Coleman suitcase stove I can use to fire up some sausage or brats. We can do something similar to what we did for Sunfish again also (Kudo's to CaptJJ for coming up with that idea)
Before we dive into all of those details. We'll give it a full day for guys to speak up that would rather see this happen at Schroon or somewhere in between there and Southbay. I'm guessing a few weeks from now would be good. If we're still in agreement with our spot tomorrow we'll set it in stone and come up with a date.
Sound good?
I have a feeling this could quickly become bigger than the 2010 gathering.
The date and spot have been settled. Feruary 26, Sunday at the South Bay boat launch. Some of us will be camping out on the lake the night before. Feel free to join us.
-
south bay sounds good to me! lots of action for everybody! and lots of room and good ice for weelers.
-
I could maybe have my arm twisted ;) Sounds like a cool idea. South bay......not familiar with it at all. Is it the one I found on the map just east of Lake George??
-
I have never met many people on this site, although many have provided me much assistance in the past.
I would enjoy putting a face to the tagname.
I'm in.
-
yup! its a great spot. crappy, perch, gills, pike and a occasional eye[rare].also got a chance of a ling or catfish to.
-
glad to see this happening again! with the lack of ice in parts of the state, this will be good! ;D
-
15 tip ups!
-

Yes it is. Easy to find with a little Map Questing.
Here a couple links to threads devoted to the 2010 gathering for anyone that's interested.

This is going to be fun.
-
I'm in !! ;)
-
sounds good...15 tip-ups??? thought you could only have 10 on champlain?
-
i'm in! better do it soon, never know with this weather. :P
-
sounds good slayer, let me know if you need anything.
-
Yes Count me in. Gonna have to break out the other 10 tip ups
-
You're allowed 15 on Champlain.
Ill say, it's a ton of work though.
I'm thinking 2 or 3 weeks from now would be perfect. They should be driving car and trucks on that ice down there by next week.
-
Would love to join up with you guys, problems with back. Hope I can make it
-
i say the 3rd weekend in febuary.
-
Sounds like fun I wouldn't mind meeting some people on the forum.
-
I'd like to go but will probably be working those weekends in Feb. :-\
-
Sounds like fun! I would be in for the 3rd weekend in Feb also
-
how about the first weekend in march jj?
-
Don't plan it around me. Two years ago we waited until after the LG Winter Carnival, and for nicer weather. We already have that this year, question is will the ice be good in March? I would like to fish South Bay though.
-
1st weekend in march is a big tourney on the sacandaga res. i say 3rd weekend in feb.
-
im in ;)
-
One thing I've learned about planning: Just pick the best date you can. If people want to, they'll be there.
-
depending on when it is, i'll be there
-
I will try to get there.....
-
Feb. 25-26, the 4th weekend would be better for me, I've got a big paintball game on the 18th of Feb.
-
yeah actually the 25-26 is better for me too!
-
im in sounds like a blast
-
sounds like alot of fun! ifs its the first weekend in March i wouldn't be able to make it, ill be at the Schroon lake fishing tournament but the other weekends sound good!
-
I would love to but that is same weekend as Bonaparte they give i away aguer's, shanty's, and alot more can we do the 25th i dont see much for that weekend. It is also the same weekend now that Sandy pond is being held since they post poned it. I have this weekend tupper lake, next weekend chippewa (sorry about the spelling) and Theresa, Bonaparte the 18th and then the next weekend nothing. Then the first week of march i also plan on the great sacondaga (again with the spelling) Food-n-Fuel weekend long tourny. Would love to meet you guys but am in need of that gas auger which i pray to win this year or am forced to buy one. Any cheap ones hit me up PM me then i can stop derbying it and tring to win one lol.
-
There are 6 derbys the week of the 18th and 1 i see listed on here for the 25th.
-
well i say we make it the last weekend in febuary. that way theres safe ice.
-
It's looking like Sunday, February the 26th will work for most of the people that have posted.
We'll keep in mind that this could turn into a solid crew of people. We'll try our best to not crowd up the locals.
40 years from now if I am out there and a crew of 20 sets up next to me I'm probably going to leave irritated.
Those of us that fish down that way often can scope out a good area away from the diehards to set up ahead of time.
There should be plenty of parking at the boat launch and old bridge. I know there are other areas to fish down there, but parking isn't nearly as good.
Most years it is easy to drive on the lake there. It is definitely not a good year for that! At this point we can agree to set up close to the parking areas.
For those that are unfamiliar with the fishing at South Bay. The water around the Rt 22 bridge never freezes well. Stay away.
The area is known mostly for panfishing. Have your jig sticks ready if you're planning to catch fish. If you don't like chasing bass and pickeral flags bring huge bait or no tipups. If you do like to, bring cheap cup bait. There are pike, but it's far from the top of my list of pike waters. Walleye exist, but targeting them there is a waste of time.
-
Food!
I've got a good hook up at Oscars up here in the Burg. I can bring some meat and my Coleman stove. It's a suitcase style that can do about 20 sausage or brats at a time. If anyone has another or something better, cool. If you've never tried anything from Oscars you're missing out. If my memory serves me I'll have him smoke up my last fillet of salmon I've been holding onto before then too.
-
awesome.....i might have to borrow some tip-ups, sont fish champlain enough to buy 10 more lol
-
Sounds like alot of fun. Iam in!
-
oscar's rocks, very good meat!! i'm down for the sunday the 26th. south bay. should be a good time.
-
So the 26th is a go for me. I will be handling the giveaways I already talked to a couple people and are willing to donate somethings. It's just going to be for the biggest catch of the day. A jigging pole for the biggest perch and pan fish and a new tip up for the biggest pike, pickerel.
Going to keep it simple. Fish will be judged by length. Also might have some small prizes some jigs or something along those lines for any
kid's that show up.
I was planning on bringing my propane grill. I think it would be alot easier to cook on. I will have some chili with me to.
-
nice!!!! i might have a portable grill..have to look. how much food should we bring? maybe a dumb question, but my 1st time. just a guestimate will work.
-
Bring whatever you want and how ever much you want. There is no obligation to bring or do anything but show up. It's up to each person to bring what they want. We can get a list going of what people are bringing that way we dont have all rolls and no hot dogs lol.
-
Figured it would be on a Sat, Sun the 26th should work for me, cool.
-
Looks like we got us a shindig brewin' guys!
Thanks a bunch for jumping in roundlakeNY. I'm down for about 30 links of sausage or brats and rolls.
Salads anyone?
The invite is open if any of you Onieda cats are feeling a roadtrip.
-
awesome!!!! we should get the closest pizza place and order a ton of pizza....just kidding lol
-
byob??? keg??
-
sounds like a good idea guys but i cant make it : ( got some complications id love to show up, but my aunts getting married that week and im stuck helping so i dont see any fishing that week.. let me know how it goes guys!! ill try to make it..
-
I will keep it open.... if we get snow I will have to work... this is the only weekend I have open, so it will be nice to catch up with ISers. Pooley, If we do't have good ice for the 18th... this could be a back up.
-
byob??? keg??
Definitely byob.
I don't know if a keg would be the greatest idea, but I don't think you'd be alone in having a few. Just remember we're showing up as a crowd. That alone will draw some attention. A keg would probably put a frown on an officers face if one happened to walk up to us. Maybe I'm being over cautious, but we may be better safe than sorry.
-
Yeah byob. Keg might be over doing it a little. I am sure it would not go to waste but lets just keep it byob.
-
no prob..i agree...i got a little excited and carried away...lol
-
Are We gonna fish?
-
Are We gonna fish?
Absolutely! I personally may not fish hard, but I'll at least throw out a handful of tipups close by.
-
drink, fish, drink, fish, eat, drink, drink......in that order....did i mention drink?
-
nitzer- your my kind of dude. just make sure your not driving. i got a feeling your gonna need a dd. lol
-
lol...just playing..not drinking that mush, but will prolly crack one open early for goodluck!!! everytime i open on ei get a flag. are we def deciding on a sunday, or was it still up in the air?
-
Sunday, February 26th it is.
-
sunday the 26th is going to be it. I hope some people fish we will have a couple prizes to giveaway. What's the general time frame that everyone will be showing up? If people are going to be showing up bright and early like I am to do some fishing I might cook up some breakfest sammys for the early risers.
-
I'll be there at daybreak. Maybe a hair before.
-
dark:30
-
awesome!!!! we should get the closest pizza place and order a ton of pizza....just kidding lol
Do they deliver rofl.
-
Do they deliver rofl.
Oh man! I bet Putorti's on Main st in Whitehall would if we wanted to be lazy. :P
-
I'll be there the night before ;)
-
Sunday, February 26th it is.
that works for me, I should have my son with me too and a good night sleep before.
-
Just to throw it out there, that is the weekend of The Great Benson Fishing Derby, the oldest fishing derby in the country. It is open to all VT waters AND Lake Champlain.
-
Sounds like a blast, hope to be there
-
Just to throw it out there, that is the weekend of The Great Benson Fishing Derby, the oldest fishing derby in the country. It is open to all VT waters AND Lake Champlain.
Thanks for the heads up. Seems like the 26th is working best for most of us. Anyone want to change the date based on that?
Unless a bunch of people ask for a date change we'll stick to the 26th.
-
i think the only other option would be saturday the 25th...seems like that weekend works for most
-
I work saturdays so lets keep the date. Seem's to work for everyone. Might be good to have the derby going that way we dont look so much like a crowd. There is plenty of ice for everyone.
-
You guys called it.... the 26th...let it be.
@)
-
ok...will dec say something with a crowd? they cant really do anything if we arent causing problems can they?
-
as long as everyone is legal there will be no problems. I hope we get a good cold snap to really tighten things up.
-
ok...will dec say something with a crowd? they cant really do anything if we arent causing problems can they?
That won't be an issue at this place.
I'll generously guestimate 20 guys showing up. It definitely won't be the first time South Bay has had a crew of that many fishing together.
Judging by how crazy all of us are about ice fishing, we'll probably be quieter than most of those parties.
As long as noone is causing a commotion we're good.
FNA, my kids being there will depend on the conditions of the lake and ex ::). Definitely a kid friendly area to fish as long as it's not a mess.
We won't mess with the date.
-
ill be there all night long! cammping trip!
-
I am also thinking about camping out. If I camped out then i could pop a few tops and not have to drive. HMMM might have to invest in a cot :) If the ice is nice the family might come sunday.
-
Well, I wanted to camp out on the ice at least once this year.
Don't hold me to it right now, but there's a chance I join you guys that Saturday night. Ill have to see what's happening when we get closer to that day.
-
me 2....i have camp on paradox and was thinking of staying there. never camped on the ice befroe..sounds interesting.....wouldn t know what to bring besides a sleeping bag...lol...would prolly saty in my chevy tho in parking lot
-
I got a 6 man shanty we could all spoon and keep each other warm :roflmao: :roflmao: jk jk
I got a 8ft bed that never has to be made.
-
hahahaha...roundlake.. ...as long as im the big spoon...lol
-
well i hope you do come slayer!!!! it will be a blast
-
I got a 6 man shanty we could all spoon and keep each other warm :roflmao: :roflmao: jk jk
I got a 8ft bed that never has to be made.
;D well I'm into the night on the ice but I draw the line to spooning with another man unless it's hyperthoria or a survival situation. ;) ;D
My son is boy scout winter camping this weekend, I might him to spend the night on the ice, lol, Sat. night, but he'd be a major *$# on Sunday. ;)
-
Duuuuuude! You guys are killing me! We've got to be careful with this thread.
Some of you guys are going to get a kick out of my "profession". I've got some stuff at work for guys that want to share a shanty. :o You can do your own raffle in there. I'll be in my cube with a padlock on the zipper if I end up staying the night out there. ;D
If you knew what I was doing between posts on this gathering thread during the day at work yesterday you'd be shocked. :o
-
Lol oh man. Do we want to know. So i got the ok from the wife to have my mancation so i will be camping out. I got g old metal 55 gallon drum that i could cut in half for a fire pit.
-

that would be the best way to have a fire, that way there isn't a fire pit left in the parking lot. ;)
Guess I'll see about the over night but I'm only home 3 nights a week so more than likely I'll just be pulling into the parking lot Sunday morning. I've got several overnighters planned for the year. ;)
-
ill be cammpin ht on the ice! and i think ill bring my own shanty ;D
-
Sunday, February 26th it is.
Jamey, great job organizing this. I will plan on going to this. Might not be the most serious fishing trip of all time, but a chance to meet other IS'ers and drink some beer and shoot the @#$% all day with other ice addicts ! That date might just be late enough in the season to score a BIG pre-spawn female pike in that area. You would think with more than a hundred tipups in there is a good chance for somebody to score a monster that day.
See you all on the 26th. ;D ;D ;D
-
LOL oh man this is going to be a great time. FNA thats what i figured we can have a fire in it then I will just throw it in the back of the truck when we leave that way there is no mess.
-
It should go without saying that all of us will respect the resource - i.e. don't leave anything on the ice, and don't let your plastic food wrappers blow away. Secure them so that they don't end up choking a poor bird or fish that swallows it.
To anyone concerned about our crowd being too big and having law enforcement show up, there is no law about the size of an ice fishing crowd. If you will be showing up with an ATV or snowmobile, please do not spend the day running slalom races around everyone's tipups or otherwise ticking people off by i.e. doing buzz-bys.
And don't drink and drive. Let's all have a good time and be mature adults. ::)
-
I am bringing a plastic garbage can so we can keep everything clean and neat. Got to put a good name out there for us ice fisherman
-
Hey fuller. Can I tow you behind the sled? We can see gow far people can go without spilling thier beer lol. Jk. I'll be up there Saturday afternoon setting up if your interested. I'll have one of my wheelers to haul gear and stuff out Cant wait to make the ice turn Green at night
-
awesome...cant wait.
i tihnk we should all stick a stick in the ground with a banner with our screen names on it by near wherever we fish..LMAO!!!!! or name tags on our carhartt's..lol..just kidding.!!!! we can have a a "meet and greet"...
quick question...as you walk off the boat launch, where will everyone most likely be set up? right there in front, to the right after bridge, or left between train tressel?
-
combsey..im in for the beer spilling contest..j/k...what do u mean by turning the ice green?
-
I have hydro glow. Green lights for night fishing.
-
Also any easy way to find your spot in the night I am learning.
-
15 POUND MONO PIKE FISHERMAN............. .. WHAT'S UP !
:o
-
lol...thats was a cool pic, does it really help, or is it just for vision?
-
After 2 hours I had 3 feet of fish under me the first night. The second time wasn't as good but we managed some nice crappies
-
Stoked you can make it Uncle D!
Congrats on being the first person to make me edit a post on this thread. ;D
Hope noone wants to beat me up for deleting posts. :P
I've got some meat and rolls covered. Does anyone else want to bring some food?
I'll try and keep a list of who and what so noone doubles up.
For all of us that have fished there, Where do you guys think?
Pike brook does have more elbow room for fisherman once you get on the lake, but if you get there after 8 you'll be parking a 1/2 mile up the road. I couldn't believe the amount of cars lining the road today. With Lake George not having much safe ice these other well known spots are getting hit a lot harder. The parking around the launch is a lot easier, but we have more room to roam at the other end. Combsey? Dfuller? anyone else want to pipe in.
-
(IMO) I think in front of the launch is the wiser choice simply due to parking. There may not be as much room to fish, but the intent is a gathering. No need to "poff" the residents. That and a buck will get you a cup of coffee at Mickey D's.

Good call. An extra 10-15 vehicles down there wouldn't make us any friends.
That will make us the easiest to find also. We'll be somewhere visible from the boat launch, sure to keep it reasonable walking distance. I've got a black Ice Cube hub and Combsey has a blue Shapell hub. Im sure there will be 3 or 4 more portables in the immediate area. Hopefully with fish already in our buckets from the night before. ;D
-
ill bring the venison! ive got 4 staps to cook up! i cant wait to care some people into thinking theres aliens under the ice!
-
I will have the frabill shanty plus we will have a grill and a fire going should be easy to spot. Mmm venison we are going to be to full to fish.
-
you can never be to full to fish! maybe a vennison chilli is in order? ill also bring a bunch of vennison steaks. il have my shappelledx40000 with me. come on in and enjoy some deliciouse food.
-
The plan to gather and fish near the bridge makes the most sense, even though as noted there is more room on the ice down near Pike Brook road. The limited parking there would frustrate the late arrivals and we don't want people starting their day with a big negative like parking drama.
I see the group possibly getting on both sides of the bridge - and there is actually more ice area on the little bay on the south side of the bridge than there is right in front of the boat launch. It is just a short dash across the road to go see how the guys on the other side are doing. We'll play this by ear and see how much room is needed as the day unfolds. I know I want to see somebody with a monster pike on the ice.
Unless they are miserable and anti-social, there should be a fair number of guys fishing there that have never even heard of iceshanty.com, but hey they ice fish so they are still brothers and I welcome all fishermen that are present to join the party................. ...........
AS LONG AS THEY DON'T DRINK ANY OF MY BEER ! ;D :o
-
remeber to buy your beer the night before!! i found out you cant by beer at 5am!.....who new ;D
-
There will be a loaded laker heritage tip up, up for grabs to the biggest pike.
-
awesome...biggest by length, or by weight?
-
Sounds like a great time. Are there any good hotels in the area for those of us that aren't in the area?
-
Celtron , I have stayed at the Budget Inn on the south end of the village of Whitehall a few times. That is the only lodging available in Whitehall unless you know of a Bed and Breakfast there. The Budget Inn lives up to its name alright, but it is only 4 miles from South bay. The nightly rate was $ 50 plus tax last winter when I last stayed there.
There might be motels 25 miles north in Ticonderoga. I know there are many hotels in the Lake George area also about 25 miles from Whitehall.
-
awesome...biggest by length, or by weight?
I am trying to keep this as simple as I can seen that its all for fun
We will go by length and any tie then we will go by weight.
Prizes are as follows
1 Laker Heritage Tip Up for biggest pike 1 jigging rod for biggest perch Handfull of jigs for biggest panfish
And for any kid's that show up 1 jigging rod for biggest fish and some jigs for the runner ups.
Entries will be taken from dawn sunday until 3pm at that time prizes will be handed out. Must be present to get prize. I will have a scale and tape measure setup on a table in the general area that everyone is hanging out.
So if you want to be in the running for the prizes you can PM just saying you want to be in. Or you can stop by the table and put your name in that day. I will have a leader board setup with everyones names that want to be in it.
-
The Date is good! Now, can some one put an address up so we can Google earth it. Want to send this along to some non internet friends. Though I live an hour a way, I have never fished the King.
-
Go to Google maps and enter south bay, lake champlain should bring up a map. it on rt 22
-
im in roundlaker for the prizes
-

South Bay is the southern part of Champlain. The boat launch is on Rt 22 outside of Whitehall on the right hand side. It would have been cool to do it on the king this year, but momma nature isn't cooperating. Any and everyone is welcome.
Nice work putting that stuff together roundlakeNY. Thanks a bunch for jumping in like this. I saved the banner from 2 years ago hoping to use it again.
-
Go to Google maps and enter south bay, lake champlain should bring up a map. it on rt 22
So this is Champlain... 15 tipups?
-
So this is Champlain... 15 tipups?
Yep. ;D

-
The king is Lake George.
-
I'm stoked to fish waters I know nothing about... please schedule no snow storms for that day please!
-
i fish this area in bass tourny and have caught a few bowfins...anyone ever catch any of these through the ice? judging by their fight on a rod and reel, i can only imagine bringing one in on a tipup
-
Looks like there is a public fishing pier on the west side and the boat launch looks to be on the east side? do we park in those areas or do you park on the bridge?
-
i plan on parking in the boat launch, if i get there early enough lol
-
Looks like there is a public fishing pier on the west side and the boat launch looks to be on the east side? do we park in those areas or do you park on the bridge?
There's parking at the pier and boat launch. We'll be an easy walk from either parking area.
Be prepared for toothy critters, bass, and panfish.
-
A couple so far this year.
-
how do they fight on a tip-up?
-
Like a bull
-
What are we talking for FOW and structure?
-
No more then 12 feet. Mostly I the 3 to 7 foot range. Weed beds and some clay bottom. Pike bass pickerel perch. Crappies and a chance at an eye
-
....maybe a cat, bowfin, heck, even saw an eel come through a hole there once. It's a grab bag.
-
Thank you.
-
iv looked numerous times on google maps and cannot find south bay... any help?

You can't miss us. We all look like we're from West Virginia ;) Seriously, you can't miss the fishing area we will be in, right next to the bridge on route 22, just a couple miles north of the village of Whitehall. I'm not sure if we will be on just one side of the bridge, or both, but no matter everyone will be close anyway.
If all else fails, just speak up to the first guy you see on the ice and say, " we're here to meet the iceshanty guys "

Guys,
I plan to set up within a couple hundred yards straight off the boat launch. We will end up being one of the closest crews to the boat launch just to make us easiest to find. I have a black Eastman Ice Cube that will have a banner on it. I know at least 3 of us have hub style shanty's.
Last week they were driving trucks out. The shoreline got too soft to get trucks on for a few days, but the quads were still out. By the time the 26th comes they may be driving on it again. We all know how that goes though. I made sure we planned to set up close enough so that driving a truck on will be unnecessary. If conditions are right, I will drive on. To be safe I would not drive a truck on without talking to one of us that fish there regularly.
I'll be fishing for sure. Just doubt I'll be fishing too hard that day.
-
You can't miss us. We all look like we're from West Virginia ;)
well not sure about you but I have all my teeth :roflmao: but yes I think most of us look like some upstate backwoods boys. I don't think you will be able to miss us. And if you do you started drinking to early lol
-
I'll be there Saturday afternoon and staying over.
-
looks like im going to have to push for the overnighter. sounds like a lot of fun. plus that way i can spy on combsey and steal some of his secrets.

Dude,For the record I'm kidding. I couldn't let that one go by!
-
Ill be there off the point to the left in the clam nanook plan on putting a banner outside with ny forum name on it. Is there a sign in sheet anywere to see who shows?
-
I have to laugh. I was getting bait this afternoon and the fisherman in front of me was talking about how south bay is all open water. ;D
-
If everyone bought one of these by the get together, it'd be much easier to identify each other:

Thanks man. Good call mentioning a sign in sheet. I'll have one at the black cube.
-
Sweet deal and yea ill have to get the banner too... have you guys thought about bringing banners or decals to sell or give away??? And yea i figured that way if there was a sign in sheet the mod can use it for a later gathering so when you guys are trying to figure everything out ya'll know who came and stuff... and about the open water really????
-
... and about the open water really????
yup, after he left I chatted with the baitshop owner and told him the guy must not be an Iceshanty.com member other wise he would have known better. ;D
-
Lol gonna be a fun trip up tho
-

Oh man, that cracks me up!
We definitely won't be selling anything. The banner I have is just the back side of an old Corona banner. I bought black stickers and numbers and made my own. I'm not sure if I can score some actual IS decals or not. I will if I can. Another good idea.
We'll definitely make a good time of it.

Fish 307 is having their icefishing blowout sale....some of the items on sale are iceshanty.com merchandise.

-
I'M IN WEATHER PERMITTING.....
-
Sounds like a good idea. I have met some great people on here and would like to put a face with some of the usernames.

hi everyone, i'm from brooklyn, ny and there is no ice around me so i've decided to travel north to fish at least one time this year. its around a 5 hour drive to adirondack region for me so the plan is to drive through the night and get to the lake around 5am or so. can anyone tell me how the ice is and where i can park, if there is a state park or something. also not trying to ask for special holes on the lake but maybe a part of the lake to fish, shallower parts. i'll be on foot, no snowmobile or quad and usually fish for panfish, perch, crappie at 15 feet of water or lower, hand over hand. wouldnt mind to meet up with you guys as well.
thanks
-
There is a huge boat launch there that you can park at. You can't miss it.
-
Panfish galore and shallow

you wont be the only one, i'll be carrying one as well, lol
i just dont fish with tip ups, only jig with marmish looking rods
-
How's the ice up there? I am really hoping that I can drive the heavy chevy out there. You won't be able to miss that sucker out there. It will also be my bed. Plus I wont have to carry everything out there.
-
:( Too bad it ended up being that weekend. I would have been game to travel for this but that weekend I have a cabin rented on Wellsley Island for my 2 boys, my father and I. Maybe next year. Have fun...tight lines

just curious, is it a cabin on ice? how much is it per day?
never did that and always wanted to.
-
btw, is there a bait/fishing store near by?
-
Here is the link for baitshops in NY. It is NY news and info on IS and takes a while to load, so be patient.

actually russianbear...ive never been there, but rumor has it that that place is closed...dont quote me though
-
I see, well as i am traveling that far, i will bring wax worms with me, thats my choice of bait for jigging, just wanted to check out local store, see whats there, cant never have enough new jigs and other new stuff i tend to find. I know it sounds funny to some, i bought 1 tipup to try this year, so i guess i will give it a try if i catch a small perch to use as bait. Btw, is it legal to use perch as bait?
-
yes but those perch count towards your daily limit.
-
What size hook should i put on tipup? And should i put a trevle or regular?
-
went on at pike brook area and fished until after dark ice was around 7-8in. unless something changes i'll be working that weekend now, guess i took vacation a little too soon ::)
-
russina, if you get off exit 20, take a left...you will go thru a bunch of shopping outlets. one of the last ones on the right is FISH 307.. at that light u will be taking aright and that will bring you to south bay. but they have bait there and anything you need. their bait is a tad pricy, but they have a lot

Good call Nitzer.
Russianbear,
Nitzer's directions may be your best best, but I'll elaborate a bit. It's the easiest route and takes you right by the biggest baitshop in the area.
Take exit 20 off I-87. Fish 307 bait shop is on the corner of Rt 149. You will not see the bait shop first. You will see the Log Jam restaurant. Turn onto 149 and immediatley turn right behind the restaurant. They share the lot behind the restaurant. Then take 149 until you get to RT 4 in Fort Ann. Take a left. This will take you into Whitehall. At the light in Whitehall continue straight onto RT 22. The boat launch we will be parked at is less than 10 minutes up the road on the right. You won't miss us from there.
My bad for letting our thread go dormant for a couple days. Work is extremely busy, but I'm not about to complain.

Well, this is where we're at as far as the shindig is concerned. I got this pm from roundlakeNY earlier today. I'll share to let you guys know what our plans are.
From roundlakeNY: Let me know if ya need a hand with anything else. I am pretty much all set on my end. I got a leader board setup that i printed out. I got all the prizes except for some jigs which i am grabbing at 307. I am making a fire pit this weekend out of a old metal 55 gallon drum. I made a pretty sweet measuring/cutting board out of a big slab of red oak with a ruler built into it. Looks really nice. I got the grill if you want to see if anyone wants to bring a 20lb tank to hook up to it mine is empty. As long as i dont forget to bring my tip ups i should be alright lol. Have you gotton any pm's of what other are thinking about bringing?
If one of our close crew could bring a tank it would be a huge help. Any wood anyone could bring would be a big help too. Local wood, of course ::)
I'll bring some meat and rolls. Might be best if we all tote our own drinks.
I will be fishing out there at least one day this weekend to keep us all up to date on conditions. I'm sure some of other guys will keep an eye out too. Judging by the forcast we shouldn't be at much risk for losing ice. We certainly won't be building much though. :-\ Hopefully temps dip just a bit in our favor. Don't plan on being able to drive on. Even if you see other vehicles out. Some of the locals got some big brass.
-
just keeping an eye on the forecast. A snow storm will wipe me out as I will have to plow. I have contacted a few others that are isers that are new or have left. Pray it is no wind, no precip. day!
-
i think i got it all mixed up, was asking questions on different threads about ice conditions in northern parts of NY, as i have zero ice around NYC.
this thread is for gathering on the southern part of Champlain on Feb 26th? is that what it is? sorry for dumb question.
-

That is it Bear.... ;D I was suppose to meet southern NY Guys on Huntington this Sat. but the ice is not good.
-
i dotn know any lakes besides saranac lake that i fish a few times a year in the spring, summer, fall.
so i saw on the forum that paradox lake has 12-15 inches of ice, so i'll be heading there with few friends this weekend. i hope ice is there as person on the forum stated.
-
I was on Schroon just two Sat. ago and there was 8-10" before the cold snap. four wheelers were out all day.
-
i can bring a load of wood. we sell it at the farm so ill bring up quite a bit but how far away is considered local cause im in northern saratoga county?
-
This sounds like a good time. Count me in. anyone planning to camp on the ice that never have before may want to buy a cot at like wal-mart. I got one for 40 bucks and it will get you up off the ice. well worth it.
-
Just shot prchslyr a message, you guys may want to move your gathering across the street. The boat launch area has taken a beating, there's not much ice left in front of it, certainly not for 20-30 people. Still hardsides across the street in the bay.
Thanks for the heads up man. We may end up having to. It would just mean a little more work getting stuff out there is all.
-
More bad news. A buddy who fished the bay today on the shanty side said ice was weak and the open water expanded atleast 20 yards oser to him today. Someone needs to do a cold dance or something.

No sweat man. We'll be good. Plenty of other good access in this area.

south bay next to white hall? just want to make sure i end up in the right place. kind of a long drive

Yes
-
were else can u acess it from?
-
were else can u acess it from?
Directly across the street from the boat launch.
-
has to be within a 50 mile. russianbear, paradox is good to go
-
thanks nitzer, cant wait to go fishing, dont even care where to be honest, just want to get on ice, first time this year.
-
No worries look's like it's staying cold at night. Just wish it would get really cold.
-
Just saw this thread. Sweeeettt. I got a cabin further up in the bay I've never fished up near the bridge but ill walk up Saturday with some food and my little grill and say hi to those who are there already. Might stay the night out, if not ill be there Sunday morning too.
Going up tmmrw, ill post how the ice is.
And anyone else other than me catching a ridiculous amount of catfish out of the bay this year? I've got more of them than pike actually.
-
Cat fishes is good ... least the bones are manageable. Wunder groud weather has temp there now at 41.
-
The cats seem to be shallower and the pike deeper this year. No snow cover? Not sure why but a majority of my pike came from no less then 6 feet this year
-
ive been hearing the opposite...due tthe warmer water this year and more vegetation
-
I am in guys. Dont know if I will be staying saturday night, but I will be there bright and early. Hopefully there will be enough ice for the wheelers.
-
At south bay right now it's 10:05 on the dot. All hard shantys on the south side were getting off the ice. All
Open water on the northernside. Down past pikebrook road there a foot and a half gap to get on the ice past the sketchy edge. There's 5.5 inches across from the sap bucket at the Y cut in the road.super sketchy Ice
Cracking ever step. Had 2 screw drivers with me cause it was that bad. 18 is suppose to be the low this weekend. It better cool off fast cause the space near the boat launch is decreasing rapidly.
I
-
I......What? You okay?
-
hate to say it guys but its not looking too good for next weekend.
-
hate to say it guys but its not looking too good for next weekend.
Man, this is mindblowing! :(
You wouldn't think this would be an issue in February.
Any idea where we can pull this off up north? I live in Warrensburg. I can find safe ice. I was hoping to make it easy on everyone at South Bay. Throw some ideas up guys
-
theres always indian lake 4th lake lake eaton lewey lake paradox lake.....
-
>:( unreal it's cold at night but warms right back up everyday. I really need to get my sap buckets out. This suck's. Is it really that bad there? there is still people out on round lake. Not sure of thickness. I figure it would still be ok up there. I got hope it can hold out one more week. What's schroon looking like? Out from the village launch stays's pretty thick.
-
yeah im fine just didn't trust that ice at all. Ill take 3 inches of black ice over 6 inches of white ice with 3 different colors in it any day. Across the bay from pike brook under death rock there's open water too. I was shocked to see that cause it was frozen over last weekend and guys were fishing there. I just got home I'm about to head up to the Rensselaer plateau hopefully find some good ice up there. but I don't think there's too much fishing left for the year. :(
-
the beach at parodox has charcole grills and picnic tables just throwing it out there.
-
Schroon lake, the village boat launch is a good area. Lake pleasant in speculator lots of parking at the town beach next to the fire hall.
-
lake pleasant would be nice. moffit's, sacandaga res. out of north hampton?
-
Champlain can be a finicky 'ol girl. I've had to pull my shanty off her in February before. She eats ice qick. More water flows through her than most would think.
-
RoundlakeNY and I will put our heads together and come up with a quick plan B.
We're still going to pull this off, but we're going to have to change our location.
We'll have another spot set in stone tonight. Probably one of the ideas mentioned.
-
Jamey, sorry you guys ( RoundLakeNY and you ) have to re-direct this. The South Bay idea was perfect, and will be perfect in future years. Hopefully the party will be salvaged successfully.
-
i wouldnt mind fishing pleasent havent been up there.. hows the ice up there tho ?
-
Id say any of the lakes that were mentioned would work fine. As long as were close to a decent pan fish bite and guys have something to throw some tip ups in for, hanging out and eating will take care of the rest.
-
I'll even bite the bullet and stay local lol. Just give me a location and date and I'll be there. Jamey. Let me know what you need brought. We can discuss that over cards but fair warning. I don't have to leave at 130 this week ;)
-
hows lazurne for fishing
-
Good early then it gets to much traffic. People wheelers etc... Some smaller pike and perch and the chance at a brown or bow
-
I am good no matter where we go. I am staying on ice sat night also. Hopefully ice makes it that long.
-
RoundlakeNY and I came to the conclusion Schroon Lake Boat launch in town is probably our best bet. Ice should be plenty safe and it's pretty easy to find.
Combsey, Sean will bring his grill if someone has a 20lb tank with a little gas in it. His is empty. I'll bring some burgers and sausage to go around. A couple armloads of wood we should be good to go. Changing the lake shouldn't mess us up bad, just the night fishing at South Bay is a bit more promising.
So, Schroon Lake boat launch it is. See you guys there.
-
Ok, schroon boat launch but what direction from there will you guys be setting up? Right in front, to the north, south, or directly across the lake? Its a big area and we'll need specifics on where to head.
-

Hmm...any ideas where would be best? I'm not too familiar with the lake. Definitely within walking distance and eyeshot of where we walk on. We'll have a black ice cube, black Frabill Headquarters, a dark blue Shappell 6000, and maybe more portables set up in a group. If someone has a tip they would like to share as to where, fire away.
-
Extra propane tank. Check. Got one full at home. Think I'll head up Saturday afternoon and try the evening and night bite. Just figure out roughly were you want to set up. Is the ice safe for wheelers still? How far do walkers want to go? I can bring my wheeler to drag people and there stuff out no problem. Just let me know the final plan.
-
If the ice is safe enough I will bring my wheeler to help move folks around too.
-
i just looked on google maps. doesn't look like there is any bait shops in town for people that were hoping to get bait there... at least not that i know of... and also is there an address for where were all going ? idk exactly were it is....
-
The launch is right behind stewarts shop in town......bait at crossroads a few min away..........but be careful getting on the lake there because open water at the boat launch......must have bubblers but there is room to get on all around it so it should be all good.
-

bobcats bait shop is just south of town on route 9 the sunoco off exit 28 just north of town has bait and crossroads off exit 25 has bait
-
I was thinking about having the gathering right out from the launch. I plan on fishing saturday night in a different spot than moving in closer sunday morning. That will make it nice and easy for everyone to find. prchslyr and I will not go down with out a fight we are gonna make this happen.
-
Crossroads for bait is 40 Dixon Road Chestertown NY 12817 opens at 5am.
-
yea i relized after i zoomed out that brant lake was near... i fish brant alot and never put 2 and 2 together that the lakes were that close apart...
-
My buddie has a hard shanty in that area and they rode wheelers out to it from near the launch and they said there is plenty of ice......they will be up there again friday night so i will have them check the ice again but it should be okay for wheelers.
-
MyHuntingForum had a gettogether on schroon out from the boat launch in the northend and they didn't catch squat, just good for thought, not going to be good I think if it's right tight to the northern launch. :-\
-
we had gone straight accross and ended up in the very deep hole 120 feet +. I think if we stayed close to the boat launch area, we'll do better. And some of us did get some nice lakers and smelt ;D

The smelt were 10 ft thick from 30 to 40 ft down, I think thats why the fishing was slow... Just left of the launch the ice was fine to get machines on.. To the right they have bubblers going.... We were stright across towards the north end of the island about 50 yards from it.. We only got a few lakers but filled a 5gal bucket 1/2 up with smelt... Hope that helps some.. ;D
-
There it is. How's that for a quick response?! Thanks guys!
We'll take that advice and stay pretty close to the launch on Schroon.
Sounds a lot better than the action I had out on Brant yesterday. Place is beautiful, but better for a nap than action.
-
Yeah sticking shallow is a good idea. Not everyone is rigged for 120ft depth.
Everytime I went into my shanty and sat i started falling asleep.
-

I probably would have been just as well off if I did the same thing. I refused to admit defeat and made a few of those darn things bite. Just took 8 different jigs and 20 something holes to do it. :P
We're going to be out there eating sausage and whatever else too. Might want to keep Stewarts within reasonable distance. They've got toilets. ;D
-
Sounds like fun. I don't know the area. What exit of the Northway is it?
-
exit 27 off I-87
-
Thanks!

-

20-80feet of water. ;D

20-80feet of water. ;D
I was definitely hoping to set up where we can find that happy medium. Panfish grounds with deep water not far off for the laker guys. Thanks for all your Schroon advice man. I'm clueless with that place. :P
-
There is a sharp drop off about 100yards out from the boat launch........caught the biggest smallmouth ive ever caught and a few perch there......left early because the wind horrible. Hope its not windy for u guys.
-
just a little fyi for you guys no matter how deep the water i wouldn't bother setting tip ups more than 20' below the ice,for some reason on that lake you will catch more lakers at 20' down than fishing the bottom even in the 120' hole, and some of the biggest lakers i'v seen out of that lake were caught in less than 10fow good luck out there guys
-
I heard 15' was the magic number lately.
-
I'm definitely going to try and make it saturday, if I don't have to work. I've always had better luck fishing no deeper than 20 ft. down, no matter how much water. All the guys I fish with there do the same.
-
thanks for the info. any crappie running around there ?

So it's Sunday on Schroon out from the boat launch by Stewart's? Is that the final answer? If so is anyone going to go up Saturday and do some night fishing? I'm always up for overnighters

Final answer.
I know RoundlakeNY was planning on camping out. I wouldn't be able to get up there until after dark Saturday night, but I'll show up and camp out for the night.

I will also be camping out. ;D

gona try to make it to schroon actually gonna try to camp out sat night IFi can get the guy to cover the trucks
-
jsut so everyone knows, the sunoco station off exit 28 is out of bait. stopped in sunday morning on my way to putnam pond and he said they ran out saturday....however, he still has the signs up.
-
I'll be hitting Nemecs, it's close for me.
Not just a sponsor push, but it might be easiest for guys coming up from the south to hit 307 on the way up. It's a few minutes off exit 21.
I finally smartened up and looked at a lake map. The deep 100+fow is a little north of the boat launch. Would it be best to set us up in that direction? Looks like we could fish from 20-100+fow in a short distance. Pardon my ignorance. Never had much if a reason to drive past Lake George in the winter. :P
-
never fished at night nor camped on ice at night
do you guys sleep right on ice in shanties/cars?
i was on paradox this sunday but i got there a bit early, around 4am, and i walked a little bit on ice at pitch dark and it was a bit scary for me, maybe since i dont know the lake and ice.
-
I plan on heading up saturday after work. Not sure what time i will arrive 330 or so. I like the idea that there is a bar across the street to :) Good place to get warmed up.
-
2 bars.....flannigans, and the timberwolf...highly recommend flannigans wings and french fries

I was just up there on Sunday. I fished of fowler rd. North of the access there was open water, but there were people all over the lake with wheelers and sleds. About 12-13 inches in all the holes I drilled. Slow day for me and everyone around me. Didn't mark anything all day. First attempt at fishing it for me. Not sure if I'll be able to make it up this weekend. Depends if I can get my truck fixed this week. I sure would like to give it another try. I've never caught a salmon before and it seems like as good a place as any.
-
imagine catching it saturday, curing it and then sunday morning, bagel with creamcheese and lox, :)
-
I did it with 2 kings I brought back from the Oswego river this summer. Oh man was that good! Crackers, cream cheese, and salmon nightly for weeks!
-
Alright guys.
We're getting down to the wire here. RoundlakeNY started rounding up definites via pm.
Definitely a good idea to get a head count. Hit me with a pm if you're definitely going to make it, if you could. Not like we're checking fo names on a list, but it would be good to know what we're looking at.

I'm still in it ... It's still only Tuesday and the warm stuff has not hit yet. Hopefully it will stay South. Guess I'm not gonna need 15 tipups til next year....

URGENT INFORMATION REQUEST !!!! Any of you local SchroonLake guys have a recommendation for lodging (Motel or Hotel) with reasonable rates in the Schroon Lake area ??? We want to come up on Friday and stay till Monday.
I'll "second" Russian Bear's request for info on staying out on theice at night (never done it). What's required?? What gear is absolutely necessary??? We have a 4 man Ice Cube and small Buddy heater. What else??

Heavy sleeping bag obvioulsy, but a thermal pad is pretty important too. Don't have any ideas about lodging.
-
We stayed at the super 8 motel in LG... Not fancy but cheep and only like 25mins away...
-
warm gear and a good flashlight. a lawnchair so sit back and sleep in and a heater. but to be honest not alot of sleeping happens. theres to much fishing and smelting to do at night! gotta get bait for everyone in the am!

I looked google maps, it shows motel right next to stewart's.
I dont even have a shanty, lol.
If i do go, thinking to just rough it out or sleep in car.
If there are some people on ice at night, i guess its not bad, wont be as lonely.
I got an ipad, watch some movie or aomething. Lol.

Btw, forecast shows snow shower on fri and sat.

A lantern and a decent headlamp are key.
I have a 4 man cube and a buddy heater that I've stayed out in before. Just be sure to stake all those hubs down good. Bought a fold up cot for $50 at Wally world tonight. It's going to make a world of difference if I try to actually catch some zzz's, but I don't see this thing lasting 10 trips. It's junk. I do have an extra 5x5 Clam portable I could bring if someone wants to use it for the day.

Is there parking right next to ice or do you have to park somewhere else and than drag the sled aome number of blocks?

You will only be 30 or so yards from the ice...

I'm new to this lake. What should I bring bait / tackle wise?
-
I'm new to this lake. What should I bring bait / tackle wise?
For jigging use a big jig head with a 3 or 4 inch white tube on it... Use big minnows (3 to 4") on your tip ups till you can jig up some smelt to use for bait...
-
I don't know a darn thing about jigging smelt, so I know I'll be bugging Combsey and some of the guys to tell me what the heck I'm doing wrong the whole time. Hopefully there's a few guys out there that know what they're doing.:P If I can get to shallower water to fish for perch without abandoning the crew I may.
If you're looking for any jigs or tackle you can just raid Combsey's stuff. ;)

jigging for smelt is easy. small jigging pole with a hali-jig tipped with spikes works best.

we should get together a perch crew, lol
i have one tipup that i got this year to try but dont know jack about them, other than how to set it up,
-
also try a long piece of red yarn with a weight on it for smelt. they get there teeth stuck in the yarn and you pull them in and shake over your pail.
-
hey russian, go buy 4 more cheap ones...why would you only buy one? lol
-
Russians are cheap, lol
no, i never fished with tipups and always jig so i tend to move from spot to spot until i find fish, and it seems like its hard to do that with tip ups, once you set them, you're kind of glued to that area. so i bought one just to see how it is.
-
not if you set them further apart......if u want to cover water to find fish, set them up a good distance from each other. i like to do a line. then whatever flag or flags is consistently going up, i start relocating and setting up by them
-
If you are going for salmon .... ya need to set them tipups pretty far cause they will tangle em all up when they run.
;)
-
I ahd a pike do that this season I had one flag fly when i got to it the other one flew up then the next one. Let's just say its a real mess.
-
so the lesson here, dont put too much line on the spool, this way they cant run far :)
-
Lol something like that.

if you are talking about the ozark trail one it is cheaper, but it is great for ice camping. It may last longera bit longer than 10 uses though.

Any report on how thick the ice is? Is it safe for ATV's for this weekend?
-
Sorry guys, I can't go. I just found out my wife's family is throwing together a congrats your pregnant party for my wife(she doesn't know about the party, its a surprise) and it this sunday. :P I guess another time for me. :-\ :'(

Well, congrats are definitely in order.
I feel for you man. One of those things you hate to admit, you'd probably rather go fishing.
We'll meet up another time for sure.
-
Look's like we will have a little of the white stuff on the ground for the gathering. Should i bring the taboggan so we can have races down the hill next to the launch. ;D
-
YES!!!!!!!!

Thank you. its our first. Its a miracle we're even having one. My wife is a 4 time brain cancer survivor and the doctors told her the chances of her having kids was very low.
-
Congrats ROY
-
congrats roy
-
I have a 6 month old girl and I too enjoy every minute...well...most minutes anyhow. Funny.....really funny once they hit that laugh at everything stage. Good stuff though.

But wait till they are 15 and get mouthy and think they know everything... ;D ;D

15??? Mine did that at 12!!! They are all grown and the 30 year old just last year was amazed how smart I have gotten lately. He no longer knows it all. The other three, can't wait until they turn 29! LOL.
CONGRATS, ROY!
-
CONGRATS ROY
-
15? crap mine daughter is 3 and my son is 6 and they KNOW IT ALL, ask them.
-
question, a serious one.
so i am still not sure whether i am going but if i will go, i am thinking to go friday after work and get there by 12am or so. is there anyone that is planning to be there friday/saturday and fish at night?
-
I am planning on leaving after work friday and overnighting friday night and saturday night. I will likely be the only shack out there so I will be hard to miss. Big red eskimo hub shack. If you are going to be there let me know. I also have a few extra tipups for you to use if you would like.
-
Fished there today and it was slow. We ( me,bluemountainlaker, and beaver1080) fished in the deep hole. Marked fish but no takers on the jiggs. There was 13 to 15 inches and wheelers on the lake today. Should of brought mine it would of saved a long walk

If all goes well, I'll be there mid day, friday. Look for the black Eskimo Ice Cube shanty and the ATV with tracks (instead of wheels).

See my response to Russian Bear. I don't know the lake. Where are you planning to set up, so I can be somewhere near ya?
-
Forgot to mention: Since some folks are arriving after dark, look for red and green (small) lights and glow sticks. I put them on my shanty and ATV to keep from getting run over in the dark by sleds. My shanty is black and hard to spot after sunset otherwise.
-
I dont really know the lake either, but I do have navionics on my phone. i figured we could set up in close to 40 foot of water. I do see that if we go about a half mile NE of the boat launch, we have an area that covers from about 20' to 140' in about .2 miles. Up to you guys though.
-

I thought the same thing. That way I can do some perching when I get frustrated with the lakers. ;D
-
Not too far out from the boat launch you hit 20-40 fow. We fished there a few years back during a contest and were catching lakers. If all goes ok, I will be there Sunday and someone can get us into jigging some smelts.
-
Half mile north of the launch it is, for me. I'm heading out as soon as I can get the car loaded up. See ya'll there!
-
Have a great trip guys... Take lots of pictures......
-
I should be there by 7 tonight if all goes well.
-
I will be up saturday evening at some point. Anyone have truck's out on the ice?
-
gl guys, hope you have better luck than bluemountainlaker, combsey and myself did yesterday
-
hows the weather there now? its been raining in NYC all night/morning.
-
Anybody out on the ice tonight better have your shanty chained down tight. Wind advisory 50mph gust. Saturday night and Sunday look's like it's going to be decent.
-
I'm there .8miles north of the launch, middle of the lake just past the white trailer. Caution! Pressure ridges right and left about 200 yards, open water about 500 yards north of me. Look for ATV with tracks. Black portable shanty. Don't respond to this as my wife is posting for me at home. See you there!
-
wow hes way north thats a walk for anybody without wheels
-
Yeah the gathering is gonna be close closer to shore. People can fish where ever they want but I will have my shanty set up between the launch and fowler rd. Of that little point. I have got a few small pike and lakers from that area before. Got to much stuff to be treking across the lake. I am sure prchslyr and I will find a decent spot once we get there. Pretty sure no one will have a problem finding us. With a table and grill all set up we will look like a base camp. lol
-
I might have to bail on the over night. I'm going to have an issue getting up there at a decent hour Saturday. I'd rather not have to walk on in the dark not knowing the lake well.
If you don't see me there Saturday night I will be there by 6:30 Sunday morning. I'll have a bunch of meat and at least a bag of wood from a gas station to throw in the pile. Are you still bringing a barrel shawn?
-
hey combsey jamey said he is gonna show us what perch slaying is all about this weekend. I was told that last weekend at brant to but um wait all we caught was a tan. :roflmao: we may have to get some side bets going. Jamey said he taught you everything you know so it should be a good battle. But his skill was not proved to me ;D ok ok i will save the smack talk for the ice. Should I wear my cup so i am protected from the ball busting lol
Are you going to be there at normal persons time of 6:30am or warrensburg 6:30 which in normal time is 8am :roflmao:
Yup i got the barrel all made up did that the other night.
-
Oh snap! I did in fact put a few dink perch on the ice that day.
You would have seen more than one if you weren't snoozing in the shack half the day. ;D
I'll have the other guys keep track for me while you're sleeping. ;D It's on!
-
I guess landing anything out of brant is a feat so i  to your dink perch that you caught " right after i left". ;D. With stewarts right there i should be able to funnel enough coffee into me to stay awake lol.
-
Yea, I am north, but there are a lot of shanties between here and the boat launch, forcing me north. Any body needs a ride out, call me. 518-383-3549. I'll leave the phone on in the morning.
WARNING111 Encon was just here. He checked EVERYTHING1 Even called in my ATV plate number and said he would be back in the morning. Beware.
Weather report: snowing very hard with some rain mixed in. See you in the mornimg.
-
I hope someone will still be there on Sunday AM when we get there. Lots of ice still and the shore is tight?

Sorry bud. just a crazy year.
-
I'm glad Jamey taught me everything since his biggest pike and laker both came off my tip ups :o. I'll be bringing just my jig sticks and flasher. No tip ups but I will be hopefully getting into the smelt for the people who put tip ups out I'll have one of my wheelers. Probally a red Suzuki with racks on it so if you see me in the parking lot off loading don't be afraid to say hi or ask for a lift. D

roundlakeNY you are one rolicking dude I see - have to meet you. I hope my level of intoxication on Sunday is minimal when we first meet, otherwise your opinion of me might be biased ::)
OK to %$#@ with Jamey, he is a good sport , because he is def. a fishing maniac. Feeds everyone well with his perch and crappie catches, and can hammer lakers on LG when there is ice. Hope he is not on Warrensburg time on Sunday ! I have not decided yet how early I am going to start drinking on Sunday. Social events usually cause me to want to get primed early, and often. If I get too close to open water, don't try to save me, I have an ex-wife, so it's OK to let me go . ;) ;D
-
No I will bring the ramps this time lol
-
is it still snowing and how much snow is on the ground/roads. i got a rear wheel drive car and it s@cks in snow, dont want to slide all over the road and end up in a ditch or accident.
-
I better bring a extra sd card lol dfuller good chance i will be watching the sun come up with a top popped
-

THey should have the road's cleared. They do a decent job with the main road's.
-
No I will bring the ramps this time lol
Or you could bring Chuck Norris....
-
So I got the truck loaded. Both 22 gallon gas tanks are filled. :o should be on the road by 1:30-2:00. Making a stop at 307 for something's. Anyone that want's get a hold of me feel free to give a call or text 518-692-7032. Or if you need anything at 307 on my way up for the guys out there already.

I second that emotion! Very cool! No pun intended.
-
had a great trip out. had fun ate some good food and B.S.'d. seen probaly the most elusive trout caught on a tip up iv ever seen ;) ... great meeting you folk plan on doing this again. not much fish on the ice if any but fun.... thought this would be the perfect song to end the day with.....
-
It was good meeting you all. I had a great time too.
Nubie or not, you are a hardcore dude for camping out in those conditions for 2 days. Much respect to you and afwrestler for sure.
Iceneck iced 2 smallies, I iced one smelt. Jimmy Claude came to fish, and fish he did! Took us to school with the dink perch when everyone else did about as poor as we could have. Had all I could do to not cut a hole on the other side of his bucket. ;D Thank you for the tips and tricks Jimmy, seriously.
Big thanks to RounlakeNY and his old man for doing so much out there. It really helped turn it into a shindig.
I look forward to your guys' pics and videos. I'm missing my USB cable, of course. It'll be a slight delay on the pics I have. :-\ Just be careful which one's go where. ;)
I'm sorry, but man was I proud for pulling off that prank! Thank you Danny for taking that one for the team, and well might I add! PPffffttt!!!! I'm going to be laughing at random over that one for a while. "Fish on!!!" I knew I was pushing it with that one, but I hope everyone else got as much of a kick out of it as I did. I'm still apologizing to the better half for not getting her out of the shanty when I did it. Be careful snoozing when you fish with me. You never know what you're going to end up catching on a tipup. ;) Please be careful with this one on here fellas. ;D
-
I had a good time socializing with everyone today. I came really close to getting my first skunk of the season today. Only 1 flag today but a memorable one. It was the tipup I have set up with 2 hooks about 3 feet apart to see if it is possible to get 2 perch on a single flag.
I have caught 1 perch at a time on this tipup before, but today history was made with it - I caught my first double-header :o  on it, so yes I proved it can be done! It is an old worn out , green tip-up that,in order to work, the flag band has to be " cocked " just right or else the flag will not release off the catch ;)
Jamey, are you referring to dumping my beer into my minnows to see them swimming drunk, when you mentioned the prank ? ::)
-
Jamey, you made it there today by 6:30 as you said you would - 6:30 Warrensburg time ( stolen from RoundlakeNY ) ::)
-
Danny, I now can say I have seen someone ice the elusive two headed trout. An 18"er too, according to Laura. ;) All kidding aside, It was a great time. Hope I passed along some good tips to you guys. On our next meet you all should have those hole covers!.. I will post up some pics some time today. I will have to leave the Trout off, cause .... you know.... everyone will converge on the town looking to ice one for them selves! ;)
What happened to Russian Bear and Iceballs?
-
I'm sorry Jimmy, I had to dump just one word. ;D
Think it would have gotten us in trouble. You'll see hole covers and one or two of those deadly weapons in my sled next time.
We were missing a few that I thought were showing up, but the curveball one week prior didn't help. I hope it wasn't the weather that scared anyone off. I was stoked to actually feel winter conditions this year!
That stupid trout is on my kitchen counter next to all the left over rolls. :o Think I'm gonna have to find a better spot for it.
-
Hey guy's I had a great time I wish we had iced a couple decent fish but danny's one fish made the whole trip worth it. ;D
I got to give my  to hardwaternubie and afwrestler those guy's toughed it out for two nights. In some serious wind and snow. I am feeling it today and I only spent one night.
I agree jamey, jimmy came to fish and fish he did. Now I see why ADKRoy don't want to fish with him he make's you look like a nubie ;D.

Thanks for catching all those pics!
Might as well make a party out of the tourney next weekend too.
I'm down for Sunday if you guys' want to coordinate.
Hope all goes well with the tooth man. That's one type of pain that can incapacitate a dude. Relief is coming my friend.
